I would REALLY REALLY recommend putting up your own loan wanted ad in horsemart rather than just looking at the loan horse ads that are already there.

That is how I got Hattie as her owner was looking at the "loan wanted" ads to see if there was anyone suitable BEFORE she spent the cash advertising Hattie on there. Hattie never made it onto the internet as I got snapped up by her owner!

If you put your own loan wanted ad, you will probably get "snapped" up before your loan horse makes it onto the internet too. It was the best money I ever spent.

I recently got a horse on loan. I was looking to buy and had seen loads that were not right for me, when I saw her advertised on horsehunter. Luckily the ad had only just been placed, and she was what i was looking for and I think I was what her owners were looking for too. I would recommend making your wanted ad quite personal, explaining about yourself and what you would like the horse for and what you can offer (i mean where it would live, are there other horses open fields etc). Its a big step for someone to loan their beloved horse out, so the more they know about you before hand the more likely they are to ring you.

good luck!

Completely agree with this, we advertised a wanted ad in the same way, although we got some odd responses to the ad asking for an eventer for lower level BE and PC (eg 4 yo unbroken stallion) we had lots of lovely replies and have a smashing boy whose owner is great and they live only 1/2 hour up the road
