Having had a trawl of the usual HQ and Horse Deals I am disappointed to find not much I really like!
Where else could I look? I am after a either a young horse who's done the basics dr/sj/xc schooled and ready to bring up the BE levels, or something older that I could just crack on with.

Either way it must hack, be sensible, and not be a raging lunatic if not ridden everyday. Is this the impossible? I have tried the H+H website but can't seem to get it to work at all, I am currently in Afghanistan and wonder if it is just the rubbish internet. I am home in 2 weeks, and want to find ones to look at, budget is up to £8k which I think is pretty reasonable.

I am probably going to try Carron Nichol at European sports horses because I have had 2 from her before and she has some super smart ones on her web page.

Any other suggestions? or anyone who can work the H+H page. thanks :)

I would contact event riders direct - many of them have their own websites.

Other alternatives would be the Billy Stud, Vere Philips, Exmoor Eventing etc

There is very little around I am looking too but at half your budget which is a bit limiting. Try Joanne at Avonmill www.avonmill.co.uk as that is where Pip comes from and she has some really nice Irish horses through properly assessed at sensible prices.

Try Brendon Stud, they are having a 'spring sale' and may have something that will event. Or via Facebook try and contact Liv Craddock or Sam Penn. both normally have a nice young one in to sell. All are located in roughly the same area so it could be a useful trip for a day.

I'm another that would recommend Tina at Tinderbox Sport Horses, bought my fab horse from her 3 years ago. She was completely honest and have not found a fault with the horse, everything was as she said. Always seems to have lovely sane willing horses in, I'd be back in an instant if I was to look for another.
If you end up wanting something a bit younger/greener, Donal Barnwell has some lovely horses at fair prices.

Fred and Lisa Ford at Morelands Stud get some really smart ones in; mostly Irish and a lot of choice!

We have just sold our event mare but she was more than your budget. She was a wonderful mare came from CN five years ago as a three year old. CN has some reasonable priced horses if you are willing to spend time finding the one for you. We also had a wonderful mare from LG sportshorses in Cheshire they are nice people and not pushy.

Try Sophie Damment (https://www.facebook.com/SophieDammentEventing). I bought my horse from her and he was exactly as described. Very happy to recommend. She tends to buy from Ireland and brings them on over a year, giving them an all round education, so really gets to know them.

Out of interest, what did you pay for your horse? She has a couple I like the look of and just wondering what sort of prices she usually sells them at (she won't sell until they have a few events under their belt so I suspect they'll be more than I can afford)
Thanks

Am somewhat reassured to know that it's not just me being ridiculously fussy, by I have a similar budget to s_j and I can't see anything I consider worth spending that on, and I don't even have lofty ambitions! Lol

There's a lovely 8yr old 16.2hh by Darco on fb - with BSJA winnings bold, brave, competed hunter trails and ODEs jumps everything - snaffle mouthed. Competing BSJA and easy jumps 1.30m hacks alone, hunted.Nr Saffron Walden will pm you the tel no They have video available and great trial facilities

Thanks for the help everyone. I have been in touch with a few of you and your suggested contacts. Including Sam Penn and Rosie Chinery, it is now only 12 days until I am back from Afghanistan and I am so ridiculously excited to get viewing, I just hope that they are still for sale! I will also take a trip to Carron Nichols who is only 30 mins away. :) can't wait.
