My new pony is being freezemarked on Sunday, but I am slightly undecided where to have it. My others are all done on the shoulder so I can clip over it during winter but not allow rain to penetrate the coat along the back.
I am hoping to show the new girl next year, (will be asking for lots of advice there too) and I have read the previous posts about horses being marked down or not, but still can't decide?!
She is jet black so it will be highly obvious (hopefully) which is the point, but much as I'm not keen on having it under the saddle I don't want it to go against us?
Arghhhh!!! I can't decide!!!!

One of ours has it under the saddle it has caused no problems but he was not in work when it was done so had no worries about needing to saddle him after it was done.

It is always better to have the mark somewhere other than the saddle patch. If a horse gets stolen the mark could easily be hidden with a saddle or rug.

Judges should not be marking any horse down for freezemarks. Rather they should be commending competitors for looking to safeguard their horses IMHO

See this is what I am thinking. If I do it under the saddle i would worry about riding on it till the scabs were gone, plus I can't clip it out in the winter, BUT it's not visible doing dressage or showing etc.
I still can't decide!!!!!

Could you have it done where a brand mark would go? They never seem to worry about brands and it would not spoil for want of a better word the front end for showing.

I've had two ponies freezemarked. Both on the shoulder.

My reasons are not noticable undersaddle and also no problem with wearing a saddle. Neither pony was ever shown but I believe not marked down for showing, or certainly should'nt be.

What is the point of freezemarking when pony is ridden and freezemark hidden?
