I am looking to send my horse away to get reschooled. He has had a few months off due to OCD surgery (March 10) which as been successful, and i finally got the go ahead to get him into full work and start sj. However his flatwork is rubbish, he is very green in canter, (i suspect its associated with his OCD) although the vets told me he is in no pain and probably psychological related. He has all the checks, teeth, back (monthly physio) & his tack (made to measure) he is just very disunited in canter. He is also very, very strong but he loves jumping! He is a lovely horse when everything is going his way but when its not, he is an handful to the point where he is quite agressive when schooling!

Overall i dont think i have the confidence and/or experience to fetch him back into work the correct way and i dont want to rush and get him jumping straight away. Does anyone know any good (professional) yards that reschools horses in the yorkshire area??

I know of a good BHSI - excellent flatwork trainer so would be ideal. She is based at East end of M62, nr Howden. PM me if you would like her contact details.

What about the Yorkshire Riding Centre?

They have some highly qualified instructors working for them and I am very impressed with the instructor from YRC that teaches at my yard

There is an excellent yard in East Yorkshire, with three qualified instructors. They specialise in re training and dealing with troubled horses, and they use a variety of traditional and natural horsemanship techniques. They also train in dressage and showjumping.

You can contact them at www.firtreestud.co.uk for more information :)

melanie watson is fab! she re-schooled a ex racer of mine about 4 years ago who was a total nutter and when she had finished with him he was totally different, still a little strong but you could actually stop without worrying for your life like before. he had alot better manners and had gone from a giraffe to a lovely well balanced horse.

Another vote for Melanie - you will get back a lovely, well mannered, fit, quality horse.

:)

Melanie is actually amazing- and I don't say that lightly. I know a horse well that she reschooled and he is a different animal! Same character and still very much 'him' but better in so many ways.
