Where to sleep?

Hi, I have 2 dogs, one i rescued 3 years ago Ned and a puppy Pebble who is 5 months. Pebble the lurcher puppy is crate trained and sleeps in her crate and Ned the terrier our older dog has his own basket. They have been sleeping in our room at night and dont attempt to get on the bed. But in the day i like pebble to have access to her crate and Ned access to his bed when they want time out so i leave the bedroom door open but they spend the whole time on and off the bed...taking chews on it, playing with their toys on it and it gets filthy, so im washing my bedding all the time.
Last night we moved them out of the bedroom in an attempt to make it a dog free zone. Pebble didnt mind at all but Ned whined and was not happy. He did eventually settle after 2 hrs but i didnt go out to them when Ned whined.
I have read that if the dogs sleep in the bedroom it makes the pack stronger but i want it preferably to be dog free. Will Ned eventually get used to being away from us at night? or is it too much of a change for him after 3yrs of sleeping in our bedroom?
I have thought of moving their beds in and out of the bedroom for night and day but pebbles crate is massive and its such a task.
Where do your dogs sleep?? any advice would be gratefully received!

Never heard of the stronger pack thing
They will be fine if you lick them out, the crated dog is taking it better because her little sleeping area is the same even though the environment is changed, thats the beauty of crate training, your other dog will settle after a while, my dogs chop and change, they basically go wherever I put them, esp if I have others dogs in, like boarders, this is the time mine are most likely to sleep in my room on the floor, if not they are in the kitchen or rotti sleeps on the landing, could u not down size the huge crate a bit?
Some people start off by placing dogs on the landing with baby gate at bedroom door and slowly and gradually move them further away, i.e dog down stairs and baby gate a top or bottom, I would def remove them from your room, start and leave them both in the kitchen during the day.
It's a good sign your dog stopped whinging and settled, thats a pretty good time period for him to hush and settle, keep as u are and gradually move them to where u want them to be

Mine have a big bed in the kitchen but during the day I know they settle on my bed and will kip for a few hours while i'm at work. I put an empty duvet cover over the bed to protect my sheets - bung it in the wash once a week.

Could you put the baby gate on the bedroom door and bed and crate on the landing? That way you get bedroom as a dog free zone but they aren't toally excluded.

Pup would probably settle easier but Ned might feel miffed as bigger change for him.
