Sorry I know this isn't strictly hunting but it's close...!

Basically next year I will be 16 and so old enough to Point to Point, which I have my heart set on doing! I currently have an ex-p2per who will be 11 next season, he p2ped 8 times and never placed and has had various back problems and been reschooled enough to be a calm all rounder, pony club and my hunter type, so I don't particularly want to P2P him as it would most probably send him a bit crazy again. I have hunted him for 2 seasons as much as possible now and (when his back isn't playing up) have been able to get lots of experience jumping hedges. I'm currently a junior subscriber. I haven't done much race riding, I did our hunts charity race and have taken my horse up the gallops but have never jumped with a racing saddle, although I do own one so could learn over sjs first aha.

So I was just wondering, how would I go about finding a suitable p2per (I just want to get around, not bothered about winning just yet - just need a nice schoolmaster to look after me) and how would I go about qualifying and registering etc?

Thankyou!

I would find a local P2P trainer and see if you can go along for some work experience. If you look on Jumping for Fun you should be able to find a local trainer. My advice would be to get experience from the best people you can (in my experience most people are lovely and very encouraging). You have plenty of time to get going and you will find that your horse will probably be fine to P2P as well as anything else, my horses combined pointing with showing, eventing and hunting (e.g pointing one weekend, BE event the next weekend and then 4 weeks later showing at a County Show!).
Also have a look at the British Racing School they do short courses aimed at P2P jockeys.
Anything else just ask :)
