An elderly relative recently passed away and we've been given their dog. The problem is he doesn't get on with my other dogs so I need to rehome him but I've no idea where to start.

If you really need to rehome him what breed is he?

Perhaps a breed rescue may take him or help find him a home from your house?

Smaller rescues are more likely to help in this situation than bigger rescues?

Look at dog pages and put on the private rehome pages.
PM about above links

And how long have your dogs been together and them not getting on, sometimes they just need to sort a pecking order out. Two of mine scrapped quite a bit for a while until settling now they are best buds.

You could try the RSPCA as they do take dogs who have lost their owners.I know they haven't had good press on here but they do rehome dogs like this one.

Gosh. Poor dog.

Can you not give it some more time? Heartbreaking for it to be put in rescue.

I would love to but as I have 2 dogs already its stressing them out and also the other dog and he really needs 1 to 1 companionship which I just cannot provide.
No other family will take him.

We've thought long and hard about this and its heartbreaking but it really would be the best thing for him.
Its not something I am taking lightly.

How old is he and what breed? If he's a pedigree then look at the Kennel Club website to find the relevant breed club - they can help with advice as well as possible rehoming.

Other possibilities for non-pedigrees are Dogs Trust and Wood Green - both of which have no-kill policies (unlike the RSPCA).

You could also ask your local authority animal welfare officer for advice on local re-homing facilities.

If you are putting him on preloved etc please do not advertise him as free to good home, charge £30 otherwise you risk this dog going as a bait dog to a fighting gang. Is he neutered and chipped?

I wouldn't put an advert on preloved at all - try contacting the others that have been suggested before you stick an advert on any of the advertising sites!

I feel so sorry for the elderly relative and the dog, they would be heartbroken to think no-one could take on a small pet for his latter years.

And as for Preloved ??? What an awful place. If you are having to rehome him please do the best you can and at least try and know something about who you are handing him over to.

Completely agree.

Try the blue cross too, they do a rehome from home so he doesn't have to go into kennels, but can be advertised on their website and kept with you if you can keep him a bit longer :)

I would think, if no updates, OP doesn't want you to know!

I feel sorry for them too, what a sad end for a beloved pet.

Re Preloved, it is the site for general numpties to offload dogs, or dodgy breeders, but I have had animals from that site, and they are in a wonderful, loving home, so don't write it off as a complete loss of hope...
