a horse to buy on a VERY tight budget (Up to about £800)?

Basically at the moment I share a horse 2 days a week and the horse/the arrangements perfect for me , especially seeing as I'm recovering from illness (the horse is confidence giver, easy to do etc). However the contract ends in august and OH has offered to buy me a pony :D ( I believe his thinking is that the more time im at the yard the more time he has for his computer games *rollseyes*).

I have been riding on and off for the past 6/7 years and I'd really like a project horse / youngster to bring on but as I weigh 10 1/2 stone and am quite tall it would need to be 15hh+. I've checked horsemart, preloved, and project horses but havent found anything. Can anyone reccommend any websites? I would also consider full loaning a horse instead of buying.

And I know I havent got thousands to spend on a horse but it would get heaps of tlc from me and OH can afford for it to be properly looked after so please dont judge :D

Thoroughbred re homing centres or TBs who are too slow go for about that price (depending on breeding, etc). Or if you don't want a TB other charities re home horses for a small price too.

Make sure you have enough money to actually keep the horse before buying though, as buying the horse is the cheap part!

Ohh thats a fab idea S_J , I'm not sure if there are any horsey charitys near me but I'll have a look on google now.

Yes I know , I've worked out it will cost approx £50 a week on grass livery ( for hay, field rent , insurance etc and assuming i put away a bit each week for farrier/dentist/vaccinations/emergencys). OH easily spends that and then some on playstation games each week! and he says riding is the expensive hobby!! x

Dare I wisper - Dragon Drving ? :S
Or ask around see if there are any loan view to buys people have heard of ? Many people with those are happy to sell lower because they are very sure that they are going to a good home

Just googled dragon driving - it says something about carriage driving?

hehe yes I prefer M&M types luckily ... OH is so clueless about horses.. the reason this all came about was I was looking on preloved and saw one of the shetties at the yard was for sale and when he came too poo pick yesterday I mentioned it and he said 'Oh, would you like me to buy you him then?' Bless him! I mumbled something about how I'd prefer a horse I could actually ride , and how I think I may be a bit big for him.. haha offer was especially sweet as said shetland has kicked OH before :p

Equine rescue and rehoming forum has loads of slaughter rescues priced normally between 400-800. Although the horse is yours it's still on a contract to protect it so it doesn't suit everyone but at least you would save a horse from slaughter :)
