Wheres a good place to go hacking in the Midlands?

As i am sadly selling my horse

before she goes i would like to take her on a really good hack somewhere. We are on the Warwickshire/Leicestershire border near Nuneaton and max traveling time would probably be about 2 hours (although could stretch it that little bit further if there is somewhere really good

)

So any ideas? Not bothered about jumps or anything just want somewhere where we can go for a good long hack and a gallop without having to do any roadwork

Oh and does anyone know where the closest beach is?

I live in Leicestershire and my favourite places to go hacking are beacon hill/Boombrigs, Bradagte park/swithland woods, the Prestwold estate is really nice and there is elvaston castle too but I haven't been there but other people on the yard have and really liked it

well there is sherwood forest of the M1, loades of off road etc

or a uk chases course near if its open

or box and park and ride round somerby and tilton on the hill in leic not off road but quiet

or thetford forest thats seems to be nice

i would have to agree with some of the above, cant go far wrong if you go to sherwood forest, plenty of open space but i also like Bradgate park, Leics, some lovely views and surroundings.

We have 18 miles of off road toll ride near us - there is no road work (other than crossing the occaisional lane to get from one field to another!) The TROT hatbands are £6 a day and you get a map with all the routes and they are marked. Avoid Saturdays and Wednesday during the shooting season - otherwise they are well maintianed wide tracks round fields - no gates to speak of!

PM if you want more details - we are just outside Melton Mowbray in Rutland so will probably take you just over an hour to get here.

Nearest beach is Holkham in North Norfolk - would be at least a 3 hour drive for you.

Cannock Chase. You can ride there for hours on tracks through woods.

Have to go with Cannock Chase- you can spend a day there easily and there are pubs around it too

ive walked round cannock chase and saw quite a few horses round there but have never ridden round there myself, im in nuneaton too and would love to know the nearest beach aswell lol hope you find somewhere and have a great ride

Youv'e all given me lots of ideas! I bet sherwood forest is really nice. Just thought of Tissington Trail too its 13 miles long which is all off road and is a really nice ride
