Hi all

I don't suppose anyone can tell me when to expect this years straw and hay to be on sale?? I'm after the big round bales but no idea when to get my order in and don't like to keep bothering the suppliers...

I don't really know when straw and hay are usually cut anyway but expect it may be different because of all this rain. 2nd year of owning my girls you see so still getting to know the yearly routines.

Maybe an impossible question but any input would be great...

Well as you drive around you will see the fields being cut

yeh noticed some being cut but how long does it take from being cut to being for sale? a week a month??

Hay will only be cut if it ever stops raining. Most farmers will need a week for the ground to dry out and then a week to make it. You would be wise to order some in the event that any is made. You shouldn't feed it directly either so if you are needing any now you will need last years.

All depends on the weather, we usually look at doing wheat straw anytime anytime around August. We do the majority of hay prior to the straw however this year is proving very different. We normally have about 200 acres of hay and silage nearly done by now but with all this rain we have only got 20 acres harvested.

I swear the weather is playing major tricks on this country!! It's mucking up everything grrr!! Ive only just managed to get out riding and am struggling with my mare and mud fever. She gives me evils every time the cream comes out and yesterday I lost the cream.. Turns out she'd bit the pot ( small pot) in two and thrown it out of the stable.. Smart donkey lol

Thanks for the info though guys will keep a look out
