Hi
I need to buy a 3.5t truck to carry one 16.1 horse in comfort, not bothered about carrying 2.
Anyone out there with good / bad experiences of those currently on the market. Also which chassis - Renault Master and Vauxhall Movano seem most popular builds currently.
Thanks.

Kerelli- is that Rupert E-C? Asking because I know that he is in your area!

Anyway by french ones I assume that he means Theault- really nice lorries but very expensive ! (£32k I think)

With Renault Masters I would not buy an older chassis, get one as new as possible. They are prone to being complete rust buckets.

However I think that the VW LT35 are BRILLIANT! Doesnt matter how old it is, they are generally very sound.

I was after a VW but after speaking to my mechanic he has said they can be fantastic, but there were also a load of them that were cr*p and broke down for no apparent reason. The renaults are good, but expensive to maintain as french parts are expensive. They are aslo single axle. I have a LDV, which isnt the most glamourous, but it a true work horse and I have been told are fantastically reliable. Mine has yet to do anything to disprove it, and I love it

in it and we've been everywhere from Harrogate to Addington!

thanks for those thoughts - the Theault ones look great but yes v. expensive.
What about the side loading ramps on the Renault Master, some seem to have half the door hanging as a 'lid' over while you're loading, is that ever an issue?

Im just about to buy one...! a renault master... i was looking for one without the 'lid' as Beau isnt very good at loading and think that its not too inviting. Id def get a coach built one rather than a van conversion if you are travelling a larger horse. whats your budget ? i can point you towards some good sites for your budget!

I was worried about the "lid" but it's not been a problem.
Although on mine, if it's very cold, I warm up the gas struts that hold the "lid" up just to make sure!
Also, I didn't like the Theault Master; a lot of them have the double row of seats which seriously reduces the size of the horse areas which I cannot understand! It's a HORSE box not a bloody people-carrier!!!
