It's my birthday coming up, and i've decided that Ernie would like some new front XC boots..

After chatting with the lady who was taking leg temp. at the finish of the XC at Aldon, and marking it off beside the make of boots the horse was wearing.. the ones Ernie wears came out worst (i wasn't riding him at the time, so this was temp. of other horses)...

By far ahead was all the air-cooled boots, which are as good as they say they are..

So, how many are there to pick from..
I know about the normal Delmar ones, used alot in racing, and i'm not keen on the fit of them.. That said, after looking on their website, i see they do an 'event' spec. boot.. Has anyone tried this, does it fit differently to their other boots??

I also know about the N.E.W. boots, and am not keen on them either, mostly because the horse that was wearing them, trashed them with one simple trip..

I can't think of any other makes right now..
So open to all suggestions...

And for anyone interested, life at the new yard is all good..

There are some fab young horses there to work with for next season..

Premier Equine all the way...they are fantastic, and fit very well, and nice and snug without being heavy/restrictive.
I agree with you about the Dalmars- we used them on the racehorses. Much preferred my Premier Equines!

yes, I have the trizone and they are great. Having spoken to a tack shop owner who went to a talk about the temp under boots for xc and the damage they do to tendon's they came out as the best for keeping the temp down and thus do the least damage through heat!

I've got the Dalmars and love the fit of them. They are the event version, having not used the racing ones I can't compare I'm afraid. The only thing I would say is that they aren't designed for the really chunky ones, I have a 3/4 TB and wouldn't use them on anything with any more bone than him.

Well, having looked at them, i'm loving the look of the Premier Equine ones, and i've had stuff from them before, and liked it

So unless anyone has anything else to suggest, it looks like they could be the ones...

Re. Tri-Zone, i've only had experience of their SJing boots, ie open-front tendon boots, and hind fetlock boots, and i don't really like the fit of either of them, so that kinda rules them out..

Beth, the ones Ernie was wearing, was the Style ones, love the fit etc of them, and they have protected him well for all the years he has worn them.. However, they came out very badly for heating the leg up, while galloping...

What premier equines has everybody got? Looking to buy a pair but unsure which ones to invest in.

I've got the original PE air cooled, but really like the idea of the kevlar ones.

BTW they come up quite big - I've got Medium on my 16.2hh TB mare, she is quite fine but would have expected her to take large.

Dalmar are horribly to put on and dont fit to well.

I have PE backs, which have huge strike pads, and they broke pretty easily the only time he's properly walloped a fence (but were replaced).

I use prolites on the front which i love but theyre not air cooled

I wasn't overly impressed with the NEW air cooled fronts as the tendon guard didn't seem very long and finished too far up the leg for my liking. The hind boot doesn't have a strike pad either which put me off buying them.

I haven't seen the Premier Equine ones but liked the look of them online and would probably buy these as my next pair.

Oh, though I'd add, when I first started xc schooling my mare it was pretty terrifying - she'd regularly put her legs into jumps (we once broke a tiger trap on a fun ride), and generally get it totally wrong and not once did she damage a leg, or indeed the boots. Since then we've come out the other side and she's now a fab xc horse!

I have a pair of dalmar events in front and if they fit your horse they are amazing! That said the horse that they fit is the one that now has a mis-shaped leg from a large scar so they don't fit him now

but still love the backs on him! They were originally brought for a full TB but weren't long enough and the boots aren't "around" enough (if that makes sense) for a horse with more bone. I have a PE hind pair for the pony with more bone and he loves them, but I brought them specifically as he doesn't like to wear boots behind, so these are a un-restrictive as possible.
Glad to hear the job is going well to

Don't like the prem equine boots as the tendon guards are quite solid, and I have heard of them shattering... I also think hard tendon guards will bruise more with impact than the slightly flexi ones which will absorb some impact....

Am a HUGE fan of the Trizone boots. Very well thought out, good protection and very lightweight

I have these too - use the Mediums on my 15.2, full TB.
She is fine and has very sensitive skin and I haven't had a problem with them at all. Fit is good and they haven't rubbed once

FWIW I bought a set of PE but I sent them back as I didn't find they had enough 'coverage' of the legs.

I have since bought the Dalmar XC boots and I think they're brilliant. I can't see anything wrong with the fit although my only criticism would be that because they're in 'vertical pieces' there's a slight vertical gap in between the sections. (Hope that makes sense!)

Other than that I love them, much lighter and cooler than my previous NEW ones.

Oh and by the way my horses are quite solid - one is IDx and the other WBx

I have the Dalmar 'racing' boots & my friend has the 'eventing' boots.
I really rate the Dalmar boots - the racing boots are great for TB type legs. My horse is a 15.3 'chunky' TB. I've used them on & off for a year. Hunted in them (can't rate them highly enough for hunting

). The only critisism is that they aren't as 'robust' as they could be. They are fraying slightly on the bottow edge - but still going strong!
I was so impressed when my horse's legs were bone dry after a hard couple of hours hunting! Worth every penny!
They wouldn't really fit a much chunkier / bigger horse.

My friend has the eventer boots. They fit her 16.2 ID x TB (50/50 mix) well. These are more robust & would offer more protection for the cannon bone.
The eventer boots are made with 'tougher' material & would be harder wearing. If you could afford them I would definately go for these - recomended

Another Dalmar fan here - borrowed some from a friend and loved them so invested in a pair myself

Don't know which they are but bought them on a stand at an event so suspect they are the eventing ones.

I bought the NEW ones, and didn't like them much....so sold them on Ebay and bought PE ones (black and pink) and been very happy with those all round.

Brought a pair of PE ones in the sale (Sharpied in the pink bits) and I hate them, the fit really badly, slip loads, and the velcro cam undone! Wasn't impressed! WIll be sticking to my woof wear tendon and fetlock boots for now! (would like a pair of prolites but have no money :P)
