I am moving my horse to diy livery for the first time and need some advice on which type of bedding I should be buying. I am used to shavings but they are very expensive so I am looking for a cheaper alternative like wood pellets. Advice needed please. And also if anyone knows any stockists in co Antrim that would be great too!

Thanks!

Cardboard! Having said I would never try it had my horse on it all winter. Warmer then shavings, doesnt move and no dust. Also cheaper at £4.80 a bale

I've tried quite a lot over the years, chopped straw, rape straw with shavings mixed in, pellets etc but i am back to good old shavings and LOVE it much more than any i have tried.

Unless your horse is allergic / your supply is poor quality / there is none in your area then i would still swear by straw!
We have had the most amazing straw this year - 2 small bales make a very springy yummy 12x12 bed in a big stable and i don't need more than a bale a week to keep it very generously topped up.
At 1-1.50 a bale i can't complain!!!!

If you're not that lucky, the woodpellets that you soak are pretty good and easy to muck out but if you choose to deeplitter they are heavy to lift after!
