Just trying to decide which bit to go for with my now almost 5 year old. He came to me in a fulmer snaffle with just a joint in the middle. I changed him over to a French link version as dont like the nutcracker action. He goes ok in it but can be abit fussy in it. His directional control is now fairly good and he is bending well on the flat. He will go in a nice outline but as I say can be abit fussy as is very light in the mouth. I tried a friends kk ultra loose ring snaffle and he went really well in this. I'm just wondering if its worth getting him one of these for schooling. He is now jumping well but again not sure where to go bit wise with him. Any suggestions or personal experiences with different bits would be great.

neue schule- always fixed cheeks if they are fussy- often they can pick up on a rein contact not being completely stable if you use a loose ring

Thanks for your replies. I will have a look at the myler. Is it a fixed cheek?with the nuele schule which type do you suggest?just wondering whether to stick to a full cheek or not?im currently also using keepers with the fulmer (it's a loose ring version) but the nuele schule one says not to use keepers? Thanks for your help. Years ago I always just used a normal eggbut snaffle on my then youngter but this youngster much lighter in the mouth and there are so many different bits to choose from now!

Check out the bit bank- they let you rent bits for like a fiver, so you can play around and see what your baby needs :) you dont really need cheeks unless you are using keepers or need a hand steering, try an eggbut, and try cheeks see what goes best. and if you go for an NS, id personally just try a starter bit or something simple like that- stay away from the verbidend, its for established horses. Apart from that you cant go far wrong with their snaffles :)

I've got my four and a half year old in a fixed ring copper eggbutt snaffle. I used to have her in nearly the same thing but it had a lozenge on it, I changed because she faffed a lot with it and resented me putting her bridle on with it; she seems more than happy with this normal snaffle and salivates wonderfully with it :)

No not really he goes much more softly without faffing in my friends kk ultra which has a roller in the middle. But before I go and spend a fortune I wonderd if any other options. He's very light in the mouth and has a fairly fine delicate head thanks for your suggestions
