Which bit for jumping?

Well I school in a loose ring snaffle, had problems with him being strong initially but I've put lots of work in and schooled him out of that

With his jumping I definitely need more breaks when required

I've tried him in a gag on both the snaffle ring and 2nd ring but both apply too much poll pressure so all he does is lower his head and therefore avoids my contact and therefore has no effect on my stopping power

Any ideas on a bit which is stronger than a snaffle but doesn't work by using poll pressure?

i use a pelham with roundings for jumping and a d-ring snaffle for flatwork

The sprenger universal is a great bit but they are quite expensive, think NS do a cheaper version
