Hiya guys need some advice.

My lad is currently ridden in a bog standard jointed snaffle and has always been fine in it.

Now since were bringing him back in to work we are going to increase his fast work slightly etc.

Now although currently he is not strong he does occassionally get over excited and im worried about pulling him up safely etc (hes a ex racer) so what bit would you put him in?

I dont want to jump to something severe just something when doing fast work will give me slightly more control and stopping power.

how about a hanging cheek snaffle?? will give you the litttle extra bit of leverage, and bit more pressure over the head. maybe worth a try.
also found my horse improve (more responsive) to teh neue schule bits, different metal!

i would think that hanging cheek snaffle is the next step up really....not very severe. or if u dont want to really swap bits u could go for the old fail safe.....more schooling!!

Haha well were getting there with the schooling part hun, 6 more weeks and we will be back to fitness with a lovely topline.

Our main problem is fast work in a open space, he thinks he can tank off get over excited and prat about so just looking for a little something extra to keep him controlled.

I would also try some sort of snaffle as they are gentle and kind to the mouth. You say he can get carried away with himself (exited) mabye try a rubber pelam without the curb as that may distract him but it is soft to the mouth but easy to control i ride my 14.2 bay pony in it as its thick and doesnt damage but he sounds like yours and can over exite but the curb chain used to irrataite him so now i ride him without and he appears to be alot more settled.
thanks
