It's been so long since I had a horse!! In fact it's the first time I've actually bought one myself, I was 12 when I got my last one lol :)

Anyway, I've just got a 15:2hh ID X TB 6 year old gelding, lovely lad - and I need to buy a bit. He was going well in a hanging cheek snaffle - should I stick with this or just use a plain snaffle? He's very willing but green in the school so might need a bit more direction with steering etc - thought maybe a Fulmer snaffle so the cheek pieces give extra guidance? Any others that might be good?

Help would be appreciated - I feel clueless! I don't want to spoil his mouth with the wrong bit - but as it's all new and scary to him I want to make sure I have brakes LOL!

I would say if he is going nicely in a hanging, it is unlikely you will have enough control in a fulmer. I would find an instuctor have some lessons with them and either find a nice tack shop that will let you buy bits and bring them back and swap if still clean. Or you can us the online bit banks that charge £5 to try a bit.

And congratulations on getting your next horse. Hope it goes very well. Just a thought what were they riding him in when you brought him?

Thanks :) I tried him twice - once in a plain snaffle and the other in the hanging cheek. I didn't notice any difference in the way he went - he seemed no stronger in the plain snaffle. He's not a strong horse (so far!!) just needs a bit of guidance with accurate steering etc. Just want to find the best bit that he is happiest with, he's a really willing boy and I'd hate to mess him about!

Do you have a link to any of these bit banks? Can't seem to find one! Thanks again :)
