Hi guys,

Im thinking about starting a part time photography course in september, and was wandering what you guys think would be a good camera to start off with? I love taking action photos etc and always take lots af abbey but the quality just isnt there with my current digital camera. I would like to get one that has a good zoom on in but is also quite compact so I can carry it around easily!

Do any of you have any sugestions, as I no a lots of you guys take amazing photos!!

thanks steph.

Hi, I have a Pentax Single Lens Reflex (SLR) which includes a fast shutter speed option for action shots. I took some great pictures last year at a local show with horses jumping in front of me and the pictures being crisp and clear with no movement blur.

I also have a 300mm zoom lens which is terrific. I can’t remember the model number

but lens, camera and case was around £300.

If you want to bet serious, get an SLR with at least 7 Mega pixel resolution. You can then build up lenses, filters etc. very much like the days of film SLR cameras.

I recently bought a Canon 350D secondhand from a local camera shop for £275 inc lens, it has a years guarantee and does not look as if it has been out of the box.
I am having great fun with it, having previously had an Olympus film SLR. I just love the instant-ness of it, I can take loads of shots and then quickly get rid of the ones that haven't worked too well.
I then use an online photo processing firm to get the pictures printed, as I find that once I have bought the paper, and the ink for my printer (and wasted three sheets trying to get it right) its still not great quality, which it is from the proper professionals!
Have fun choosing! I looked at some of the photography forums to help me make up my mind

I bought the Canon 400 D (which is a DSLR) and I love it! Dn't know how to use it very well and usually have it on auto, but it takes lovely photos - it is almost the same as the 350D mentioned above

Ditto the canon 400D

Great camera and 10mega pixels to play with

If you want action shots its got to be a digital single lens reflex as otherwise the delay you get on the compact digital cameras will mean that you will miss a lot of your shots"
