Eight year old Connemara gelding, 16.1hh, 8 3/4" around his cannons.

Asking as I need to buy him a new browband anyhow, and would rather it was the right one in the event that we ever do a bit of showing in the future. Obviously breed classes are out! I was thinking perhaps Large Riding Horse or Lightweight Hunter? Not sure that he'd suit as a maxi cob, but would be prepared to hog him if so.

Thanks in advance :)

He is not a cob and never will be so please forget thoughts of hogging him, as for whether he can do hunters or RH it is hard to assess from those photos as he does look just like a connie you would not guess he was 16.1.
I would probably aim for some novice classes in both, getting a plain browband for every day, which you would need anyway, keep the velvet for best, gives you the option but to me he is probably more of a RH than a hunter, his head is a bit too pony to be in with big horses in a class.

I used to do both classes with a chunky tb I had, he was not top level so it was not a issue to go to one show and do hunters the next RH, some allowed you to do both and the only change to the kit is the browband so it is an easy thing to do if there is a bit of a gap.

I expect that you would be sticking to local shows, so as bp says, you could do either/both, although he is really more of a RH. You could put him into RC horse classes at the right show, or if he jumps, I would consider local WH with him.

His definitely not a maxi cob he will look tiny as they are are huge!

At local level there is a fair bit you could do like riding horse or riding club horse if he will pop a jump, you could try doing a hunter class and see how you get on.
