I'm pretty new to showing horses, having only done a few last year. We did working hunter classes and ridden cob type. I'm hoping to do a few more local shows this year, but was wondering what other kind of classes we'd be able to enter?

My boy is an unregistered overheight Dales (15.1-15.2). None of the shows we did last year had classes for unregistered M+M, so we were unable to do any of those. We've been jumping for just a year now, but are happy at about 2'9. Not tried much higher (I think he could, but I'm not that confident yet!).

These are a few pictures from one of the shows last year...

P.S. His mane and tail have grown a lot more since the pictures, so he's in a 'natural state'!

Any advice would be great, thanks!

Where are you based do have transport.

He look really nice when jumping you should try and find unregister M&M working hunter classes (they are getting more popular)

I have never done them myself, but from what i have seen, yes, they are much the same.
There is also handy horse/pony, which looks fun, you have to do a series of 'tests', ie, walk past billowing flags, through poles etc etc.
Of course, in a few years you'll always have veterans, which will widen your horizons.

Riding club Horse? Riding club rider? Tack and Turnout?

My horse is an overgrown native aswell; How about dressage? Thats what I do mainly with mine, as he doesnt really fit into a category!

Thanks for all your help everyone. I've got a few more ideas now so at least we'll be able to enter a few more different classes this year.

We've never done any dressage before. I'd like to give it a go but i'd definitely need to get some lessons first...I'm not the best of riders!

we have lots of classes for you at our show, we have a m & m working hunter, which doesnt state they have to be reg, also rideability, style & apperance,

personally i think he would look amazing hogged and trimmed out as a show cob, thats my personal opnion

our show is in nottingham

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately Nottingham's a bit far for me as I'm in Cheshire.

Over winter his mane, tail and feathers are a NIGHTMARE, but I'm not sure I could hog him....I love his 'fluff' too much!

At our riding club you could do M&M type, Hunter classes, novice working hunter, RC/PC horse/pony, Family Pony'horse ,Tack & Turnout and Cob classes, at our shows you dont have to be hogged or pulled.

If you want to take him in Family Pony/horse classes he would have to be shown in a plain snaffle & noseband, no martingale, boots or spurs. Don't be tempted to hog him unless you are prepared to wait years for it to grow back nicely again,if you decide you don't like it.

Best of luck!
