Which clip for a turned out horse?

Hi, I have a horse thats going to be hunting, schooling and competeing this winter. I would like to take her whole coat off, but she lives out 24/7. She is fairly hardy and thick boned but is already in her heavy weight rug.

What clip would you do? I want at least a trace but would love to take everything off, but without her freezing!

Also think she might need an exersise sheet, what is the difference between exersise sheets and competition sheets?

I've done a blanket on my boy mainly because he gets really sweaty on his neck and girth area but it also keeps his back and loins warm. It depends where your horse sweats the most, I was tempted to do a hunter on him but decided that if we have another cold spell he would get cold :p
 
this the clip i have for my living out pony and he in a HW rug - if the weather is forecast to be bad for long stretches of time I would not bother with a hunter clip as you might not be able to get out to do much anyway

many of my horses are hunter clipped and live out with good rugs! they are worked 5 days out of 7. they have ad lib forage and bucket food according to work! they are all fine, not cold, fit! the poofs, elderly and infirm are in at night!
 
mines a connie x irish, she should have been doing what your horse is doing and should have been hunting every week, so she got a full clip and lives out 24/7 with a heavy weight and snuggy hood on. However it's now growing out and as we're forcast more snow I'm debating whether to both clipping her at all, I think I probably won't for now until I know i'm off hunting again. When I do i'm thinking of doing a blanket clip this time.
 
Mine live out 24/7, one of the clipped ones is a veteran too. Last year they were clipped late Nov only, had hunter clips which lasted the duration (didn't have to reclip) and where warm as toast even during the bad snow with a h/w t/o with fleece under.

This year I hunter clipped earlier (mid Oct), they are in h/m now, need clipping again really, but will probably just do a blanket this time, as the hair that will be left is obviously less than normal winter coat having been clipped once already. :)
 
i have 3 horses living out. one would normally be full clipped as hunting regularly but he is just walking at the moment due to injury so not clipped. 2nd one is 24 and in light hacking but v v hairy so he has a low trace. 3rd one is hunting weekly and has a fine coat anyway - he has a high blanket clip but will take the lot off in the new year to avoid lines in his summer coat. They're all well rugged, well hayed and look fine.
 
Mine live out 24/7 with full clips (leave legs and half head on), have done for the last few years, i usually do their last clip in mid Feb but i'm doing the last one at xmas this yr so we can show earlier next yr without such marked lines in their coats.

Their heaviest rugs are 200g and i have 150gm liners to go under them if needed but haven't as yet even in the artic weather the last few wks, because they can move around much more they keep warmer with plenty of forage in their bellies.
