What clip for a Dales x cob who is ridden 3 times a week for 1 to 2 hours a time? He gets very sweaty, and with a thick coat, it takes a long time to dry.
Is he in at night? If so, I'd say blanket clip if not, is suggest a low chaser. I personally don't like clipping horses which live out but I know many do.
I agree with clipping horses that live out.
Having said that our big boy (Belgian draft living out all winter) is now clipped out completely except for his legs and head. He would get so sweaty it was just not fair on him and now he still gets sweaty but dryes up really quickly.
We did try different clips from just a bit to a chaser and now a full clip and that just works best for him as under his rug he is still nice and toasty.
See is you can do it by trial and error as my welsh cob only get a big bib clip and that keeps her cool.
Good luck
I only every do a full clip as I think a blanket/chaser is a bit pointless. They always sweat where the saddle is when worked and this area takes a long time to dry off. If you do any kind of trotting or cantering just take it all off. Especially since you keep them in a night. Furthermore, unless you are a very skilled clipper, a blanket or chaser clip just looks awful IMO!
Looking at the website listed my horse has an Irish clip but without having the head clipped. We do about 45 minutes work about 5 times a week. My horse sweats heavily around the neck, armpits and shoulders so I just wanted those areas clipped as I hated putting her to bed at night (weekdays) when she was still all sweaty.
