Looking into buying some clippers as old pair have died, only have 2 (hairy) horses to clip, what power would i need, and any recommendations on makes???

Seen "Dextella" make ones on ebay, at V.reasonable price compared to more well known brands- is there a reason for this!?!?!?

Thanks

Buy a known brand - there is a brand for sale on ebay that have caused a couple of people on another forum no end of problems.

You get what you pay for!

Am very happy with my Hauptner ones - not the cheapest but have been very reliable and I've had them a long time now. The last thing you want is a pair conking out on you or not clipping well.

No experience of those. We've got Lister Liberty clippers, with the battery pack and the mains just in case the battery goes flat half way through. Well worth the investment, they are so easy to use, do a great job and are pretty quiet as well.

The Liveryman Harmony wont be powerful enough to do your two hairy horses! I have Wolseley Swifts and am very happy with them! I get my blades sharpened at Clippersharp and they're really helpful. You should give them a ring or go on their website as I know they have some special offers on atm. www.clippersharp.com

I've had a pair of Wollesley Harriers for over 12 years, they have clipped literally 100s of horses, and have never let me down. However, they are now becoming a bit tired, so I just bought some Wollesley Eagles (because they were recommended for the new technology/power etc) and they are not a patch on the good old Harriers.

Wish I had just got some new ones of them.

I've just bought some Heiniger Handy Clippers after recommendations from people on here. Not used them yet because I only got them today but a reasonable price for a good brand an farmcare are currently giving free trimmers with them.

Lister neon or star i think they are called now, Mine have done over 500 horses and still going strong. Are very linght, not noisy and have a small hand grip too. I also have the lister lasers and they are serious hard core clippers but do an amazing job. Prob not the coice if you are only doing a few a year tho.

Hauptner 3000 are a new model of an established brand - they are one of the quietest on the market and reasonably slim/light for a powerful set of clippers. They are not too expensive considering the brilliant reviews they're getting - I've seen them on several websites - one of them has them at £235.00 + P&P - I'm hoping to treat myself to some for Chrimbo!

My Lister Harmony does a chaser clip on my medium hairy Section D AND a MONTHLY (yes!) high chaser clip on my ultra hairy gipsy cob mare! The clip-to-your-belt battery pack is brilliant too. No trailing wires. They are also compatible with other, larger clipper heads though I've never tried this.

Wolseley clippers, they aren't as fashionable as some, they've been around for years but they never let you down. I have the 'Swift' model, which would be ideal for clipping a couple of horses. Parts are readily available, although I've never needed any in the 8 years I've had mine. Blades are easy to come by & are not as expensive as some. Basically they are a quality item that will last you for ever.

Liveryman Harmony has caused me no end of problems, the blades, the batterpack and now the mains plug have had problems.
