Hello.. I have a Welsh section d who is a very poor doer he has the weatherbeeta apex plus an 200gram under rug on as he has no winter coat what so ever it just looks like his summer coat he is kept out all year as i don't have any stables!

I was involved in a car accident a couple of weeks ago. So can't ride for the next couple of months but he has dropped weight considerable since as i had to take him off Baileys No.4 as it sends him completely loopy if he isn't ridden everyday!

So i need something to keep his weight on while i'm not riding him! and doesn't make him nutso when i next take him out..

He is on one big slice of haylage a day - half in the morn half at night
Breakfast - half a scoop of Alfa a original and half a scoop of sugar beet
Dinner - one scoop of Alfa a original and one scoop of sugar beet plus carrots
The field he is one has plenty of grass for this time of year.

Please help as i don;t want to get over one injury to just get another :D

Another vote for micro linseed! Fantasric stuff and gives them shiny coats! It's supposed to be good for joints as well I think.

You only need a little scoop of it to make a difference. A bag costs about £20 but lasts ages.

ETA - If you rinse the sugar beet in a sieve after soaking (assuming you are using traditional 24hour soak stuff) you can remove a lot of the sugar out of it. The sugar might be sending him loopy too. :)

i would take him off the haylage and put him on adlib good hay. (he should consume at least half a bale per 24 hrs unless you have exceptional grass. i would take out his alpha a when not working and substitute for hi fi lite at double the alpha rations. change your sugarbeet for kwick beet which has less than half the sugars of normal sb. wishing you well for a speedy recovery.
