mare
gelding
stallion

if im being honest, then i would normally buy a gelding as there a bit more reliable temprement wise.

but i have had a good mare that would give you that little extra when needed.

but then again my favorite and most loyal of all was my stallion.

which do you guys prefer? just out of interest really

Love a good mare (most of mine are mares) and most of the stallions i've worked with have been gorgeous, but a lot of hassle if they havent been handled properly. x

personally for me it would have to be mares everytime,

Have always preferred mares, but my boy is very easy and forgiving. The mare I ride at the mo is ace as well, but it does take us a while to get there, but we do each time.

Always had mares (apart from Jethro), but would not object to a gelding or stallion. If looking for a horse whether it was mare or a gelding would not be a main priority.

I have to say, having all 3 of these sexes, I would say that my mares are far more affectionate than my geldings.....but my stallion is even more affectionate than some of the mares.

My mares aren't complicated at all, however I have had quirky ones in the past, and I am very fond of my girls. The mares always try their best and try to please constantly, although only if you are nice to them!

Geldings are generally far easier for most people to get on with and I do like my boys. They just do what they are asked, no questions, but sometimes I feel they are a teensy bit boring, because they are always so good.

The stallion doesn't bother his butt over anything. He takes life completely in his stride and just gets on with it without any nonsense. He is, however, a bit lazy to be honest.

When I was younger (ahem) I always preferred geldings as they are very straight forward. Now I much prefer mares - if you get a good bond with a mare, they will always do their best for you - as long as you ask them nicely and treat them with respect. I have two mares now and two retired geldings. They are all turned out together and although the big mare is the boss, there is never any mareish behaviour. Have never had a stallion, so can't comment.
