Could I have your advice please?

We have a working black lab. She is more of a pet than a worker! She has a very funny tummy. We are currently feeding her on chappie. She has mainly been ok on this but it's not giving her enough energy. Can anyone recommend a good dry food that we could feed to a working dog that has a dodgy tummy??!! Thanks

You could try a fish based food? My boy finally settled on barking heads 'fusspot'. Salmon and potato. Salmon should provide enough energy I would have thought.

You could try Skinners Duck and Rice all in one? It is a good quality food which shouldn't upset their stomachs - it's
hypoallergenic and all that :)

My Flatcoated Retrievers have Skinners Salmon and Rice, if you google suppliers it's not too expensive. They do not have digestive problems but really thrive both in energy and shiny coats.

Barking heads do a fusspot food, which is for bad tummies. I would avoid like the plague anything with wheat products in it. I would also seriously consider trying her on Raw food as it works well with animals with sensitive stomachs

That's the one :). My fusspot loves it!

I feed Millies Wolfheart, the complete range is grain free. Many dogs are allergic to chicken and egg products too. They have a help line and you can chat with their nutritionist.

My 5 month old lab is on Millies, he has a sensitive tummy and has been fine since I switched! They do a wide range of different types, so something for all.

Until recently I've been feeding Canagans grain free, with duck and game. They do dry food and tins of meat, and they have a separate range for working dogs.
Recently our Manchester Terrier has become fussy and started leaving his food, so I got a free sample of 2 weeks worth of food from tails.com (you pay £1 postage) and he LOVES this. You can tailor it to your dog's needs, be it grain free, sensitive digestion, weight problems etc, you input all the information about your dog - breed, age, body condition, any health issues, and they mix it as per your requirements.
It might be a bit of a gimmick, but Frank loves it and now picks all of the tails.com food out of his bowl and leaves the Canagans that I mix in with it..! Plus they send it in small batches, to last a month, so it doesn't take up too much space, and if he decides he has gone off it I can change it without having tons left that he wont eat (like the huge bag of Canagans that cost a small fortune sitting in our cupboard, GRR..!)
Hope you find something suitable for her soon :-)

Another vote for Barking heads fish based food, wainwrights grain free or Akela fish feast...all good for sensitive tums...if shes a true lab, check shes not eating anything her nose finds in and outside the house!

Thanks again, will email the Companies and get more info.

Micky, yes she is a true lab!!! As far as we know she doesn't pick anything up from outside. We are constantly with her. Certain chews and treats make her sick, luckily she is ok with the cheap Tesco's chew sticks!

carrots are healthier and good for teeth..i supplemented chews for carrots when a vet nurse friend told me about them! Cheaper too..there are these great 'chew' bones out there, white and washable under the tap but dogs can really have a good gnaw on them for that chewing sensation and good for teeth..can't think for life of me what its called though!

My lab with a sensitive tummy was good on the barking heads. I had to swap him though as he was carrying too much weight with it.
Now on Acana light & fit which suits him brilliantly

Avoid supermarket food, the money seems to be spent on advertising as opposed to quality food and they're full of grains which seem to be a trigger for tummy issues. There isn't enough decent protein to give energy.

Raw has been a saviour for my lot, any issues seem to be easily resolved with natural bio yoghurt and kaolin from the pharmacy.
