Hypothetically, if I wanted to put my mare into foal (some time in the next 5 yrs), I would probably go for a dressage stallion. My mare's sire was bred to SJ, but her dam came from dressage lines, and everyone tells me she looks more dressage than SJ...

Which dressge stallion would you breed with a mare that has Landgraf/Ladykillerxx/Calypso (Cor de la Bryere lines) on the sire's side and the grand stallion Grannus on the dam's side?

The stallion has to be a Warmblood, and as usual, the stallion has to have great temperament, excellent paces - particularly good at collection (to counter mare's weakness in this area) - and preferebly produces youngsters with a dark coat, i.e. very dark brown or black.

Just wondering which stallions that will still be around in 5 yrs time, I should look out for... anyone knows any?

Deanes San Ciro Hit is a useful one here in the UK. He is an eventing stallion by Sandro Hit but he has been out competing at Adv Medium dressage all winter and winning and obviously being by SH and owned by Catherston Stud then the dressage influence will be strong. His foals so far have been stunning!!!

Funny that!!! Don't tell my jealous mare this, but I have just thought that if I hadn't bought my mare 1.5 yrs ago, I would have bought another mare now which is currently available via the same stud farm I got my mare from... gorgeous paces, etc. and her sire is Sandro Hit!!!

Make sure it is a licensed stallion by one of the major breed societies. Look to see what faults your mare has and choose a stallion that will start to put right that problem. Sandro Hit has some tempermental progeny. Look in the hannoveaner.com website put in the name of a stallion in the stallion directory and you will see bar code charts showing how stallions pass on their heritable traits

I have bred a stunning colt this year by T Movistar (Jazz x Chronos) he is a compact stallion who excels in collection work, he is ridden by Carl Hester and has been taking the competition world by storm recently. He is by Jazz who is known for throwing hot heads but he himself is relatively level headed!! He has fantastic hind limb movement (as all Jazz offspring seem to) something alot of sandro hit stallions lack in. And he has a good shoulder. My mare is a tb x warmblood with a fantastic temperament, is nicely put together and has good paces.

I'm over joyed with the resulting foal, who is exceeding my expectations all the time! He should mature around 16.2HH (mare is 15.2)

@hangb - will check the website out, thanks!!! And yes, the stallion I am going to pick has to be licensed by one of the major breed societies. Mare was a premium foal, but I could never be bothered to do the mare performance test at 3. which is a bit lazy on my part...

My mare's faults are mainly to do with her hindlegs - doesn't tuck them under well enough, I believe, nd as mentioned, she is not very good in collection... thinks everything has tto be done in a "fast-forward" manner. Character-wise, she is also a bit hot-headed herself. Basically, people describe her as being too intelligent and too opinionated for her own good - a German national rider was supposed to back her and failed spectacularly! At the time, I didn't know how good that rider really was dupposed to be. It was only later that I figured out he has trained horses to PSG level for several decades! She is very picky as to who she wants to be handled by (I get away with a lot of 'stupid' things she won't tolerate at all with others). So a stallion that has proved to be very trainable, with a lot more patience would be good.

I do like T Movistar but am very worried about what I heard about many Jazz progenies ("mental" was a word to describe one)... and that may prove to be a bit too much of an explosive mix with my mare.

Didn't know Sandro Hit has temperamental offspring as well? Even in comparison to Jazz??

I am making a short list of all the stallions I like, so that my job is much easier when the time comes. I am specifically looking for young stallions (born 2003 onwards) - just to make sure they are still available by that time. I do like the Blue Hors stallion Doolittle (Don Schufro x Lauries Crusador) and San Amour (Sandro Hit x
Plaisir d'Amour). Does anyone have any experience with these stallions??

Oh crikey... just did a search in this forum and San Amour is rumoured to be hot-headed, too. I guess all the great stallions are... that is why they have the movements (show-off nature!).

That stallion was my favourite so far... hmmm...

Heya,
I was about to start a similar thread, as I am looking for a dressage stallion to put to my warmblood mare. She is by the oldenburg stallion Abraham (Askent/Absatz eg A line) & out of a graded Dutch Warmblood mare by Schwedengruss
As I only do showing, she has never done any dressage, just SHP classes, but she qualified for Royal International & Horse Of The Year every year. She has huge movement & super conformation, so im not looking to particualy rectify any faults in her.
She is currently in foal to a 138cm Riding Pony stallion, as i wanted a small show horse, but im now looking to breed dressage horses form her.
I like using young stallions & a nice elegant head is very important to me, as long with all the usual - movement etc.

But basicaly im looking to breed the most salable foal, as I will not be keeping any foals from her. She is black with no white & I would like to put her to black/dark stalion.

I really liked a stallion called Constancia Randolf but he is no longer with Emma gibson, a friend also suggested Movistar, ive also seen pics of Uthopia who is stunning, any sugestions?

Emma

Jamese I have just brought a 2 yr old by Foxcourt Fabelhaft who is owned by Foxcourt stud who also own Abraham (now dead) and his son who is standing at stud. My mare has very good temperment, is very chilled and is also very good action. she is out of TB mare. Foxcourt Fabelhaft is half brother to the gold medla dressage horse from Sydney Olympics. my filly is 2 yrs and 1 month and is a good 16 hands already.
