I have been offered the opportunity to go and work for Chris Hall at the end of the summer for a few weeks, he also said that next year i could go to him for one month after i finish my GCSEs. He is very local to us and we know him vaguely. He is meant to be very good at producing young horses and teaching ect. On the other hand should i contact a better know rider or a different one and ask them. Are there any who i should try and go to or some i should avoid at all costs? Preferably eventing as that is what i want to do (and currently do up to 1m/national level). I am doing a weeks work experience this year (required at school) with Vittoria Pannizon.

I have also been offered to go to Carl's yard when i am 17 (was going to go this summer but his insurance didn't cover me) Was also thinking maybe Angie Tompson as she is a sj and very local.

My one worry is that i don't want a reputation of that 'annoying' person always contacting riders asking for work experience???

Ps. we are based in Gloucestershire, around Stow. so something quite local would be good unless i could stay.

If you've been offered the opportunity with Chris Hall take it and make the most out of it!!

Next year when you're older and don't have such this opportunity then its time to start looking around! You won't get a reputation for being annoying if you're polite and passionate.

You're surrounded by the best in the business. Jonty Evans, Mike Jackson, Bill Levett, Charlotte Agnew, Harry Meade, Dani Bizzarro, Nick Gauntlett, Julie Tew, Kate Rocher - the list is endless.

I know Dani is looking for an apprentice at the moment, that may be worth looking at, and the facilities at Lyneham are among the best in the country. And I also know Bill is wonderful and an amazing teacher - his girls learn EVERYTHING he can possibly impart. He'd be a good person to go to.

Who in the area do you admire the most and feel you could learn the most from? Pick them, and get in touch.

I don't know any of the riders named in this thread personally so couldn't comment on their individual opinions but _in general_ you may find people more willing to help you out if you don't post identifying details and opinions about them on-line.

Of course you may find someone who'd love the publicity, but still...

Can you clarify for me what you mean by you compete at 1m/national level?

I would take every opportunity you are offered - you will learn from everybody you come into contact with. At your age, if you want to succeed, you should be like a sponge, soaking up every bit of knowledge you can.

Sometimes you will find that you will learn more and be offered more opportunities by some of the "less famous" names, as they may well have more time and more interest in you.

A little harsh - I don't think the OP has said anything derogatory about any riders, merely pointing out what excellent opportunities she has been offered.

I am riding at 100 and aiming for the national champs this year at that level (we have been selected for the area squad so fingers crossed we qualify). Last year i came 5th and the national champs at 95

Are you talking about British Eventing championships or something different? I know BE have their BE100u18 championships, but I wasn't aware of a 95 champs?
