I used Dodson and horell, baileys, dengie, and spillers when I was looking into changing diets - all via email.

Dengie were the worst, I got a very generic email back, which didn't address my concerns.
Baileys rang me and I had a nice conversation with the nutritionist to address specific issues.
I can't remember which of the others rang, and which responded via email, but they were both helpful.

All of the big feed companies have their own nutritionists. They are all helpful but will obviously recommend their own companies feeds. If you want independent advice - why not try an independent nutritionist? If you want to go for a forage diet, try Jane of simple system feeds - she has bred Arabs and anglo-arabs for years, is an advanced endurance rider and really knows her stuff and offers practical advice.

balanced horse feeds were the politest and least pushy on the fone, I know they are all trying to sell a product but they were a little less in my face! have a very good rep and lovely products.

But Jane of SS does make and sell feeds, so she isn't exactly independent! She is very emphatic that her way and products are right, and has little time for other types of feed. I have used some of their stuff so know they are good, but as an e.g. SS balancer vits and mins just can't compare with the likes of TopSpec despite what they tell you.

Dodson and Horrell are THE best!!!!!!! Plus there feeds are actually what they say they are (trust me they do unlike some certain feed companies which i can't say, PM me if you want to know

).
I emailed them about my 2 NF ponies in-foal. They were fantastic, emailed back straight away as well as sending me an info pack AND a small bag of feed!

Top Spec (Nicola) are fab for feeding advice - she knows about everyone's products (or seems to) and works on producing a balanced, nutritional diet using a variety of manfacturers feeds.

When my mare was in foal, and whilst the foal was young, I got advice from Spillers and Dodson & Horrell - both gave very sensible advice tailored to my individual circumstances.

I echo what everyone says about Dengie - you just get an automated email with a vague suggestion of what to feed

I spoke to Baileys a year or two ago and they were brilliant. Told me Ellie's feed was fine (despite it not being one of their products

) and got my friend's gelding sorted as he had difficulty holding his weight in winter.

Hi
I just wanted to clarify the situation with the Dengie advice. You are getting a generic answer because you're filling in the website form. This identifies key words and picks out the products from the Dengie range that are likely to be relevant to your horse. If you would like specific advice for your horse or pony then please e-mail feeds@dengie.com which will send your e-mail to a nutritionist. You can call the feedline which will also take you to a nutritionist who will give you personalised feeding guidelines. Hope this helps.
