I need to sort insurance today or asap ready for my boy arriving, who's on loan with a view to buy in 12mths. I wanted to go with PetPlan but they want a vet cert which I don't have. Who would you recommend?

Do you have vet fee's included? I planned to but the owner has almost talked me out of it & said instead open an ISA in his name & if the time comes use that?

I think I'm also going to miss off liability as that would be covered with BHS membership, is that wise/what you do?

Any advice always welcome by this little newbie ;)

Would recommend NFU or SEIB, definitely get vets fees cover unless you’re rich! Not sure about the liability bit but it's not that much more so would get it to make sure you fully covered just in case.

Would also definitely recommend NFU and also to include vet fees, think it's one of the most important cover to get. Probably wouldn't be bothered with loss of use however, as very rarely will any insurers pay out for loss of use unless is a high end competition horse that can no longer compete.

I would also go for liability and reading another thread on here yesterday I think there were some queries about what is covered with BHS gold membership re liabilities and think it may only cover you as rider, not horse and certainly not horse if it escapes from a field and causes some kind of damage.

Some companies will ask for a verts certificate if the horse is over a certain value or you;ve owned the horse for a while but have only just decided to insure it. I would definitely get vets cover- ISAs are great, but my vets fees cover with AmTrust is up to 5k so I feel happy with that. You might be OK with the liability if you're a BHS gold member but I would check to be on the safe side.

Definitely get vets cover......a simple injury/illness can turn into thousands....its the only part of the cover I have apart from third party and death

Along with most people I was go for NFU, they are a fantastic Insurance company, really good to deal with my mare fractured her leg and they paid out over four thousand no problem, so next part of your question I would say that vet cover is important, hope this helps

AIMS who are owned by SEIB are well worth trying- OH has a £3k horse covered for death/ £4500 vets for £311 :) and they pay out :)
