hi :D

its coming to the time where i need to renew my horses insurance, i was with petplan but am really unhappy they have upped my premium when i didnt even make a claim !! so which companies are you all with ?? i wouldnt touch E&L. i have heard nfu are good ? any thoughts ??

I'm with NFU, I had a claim about 3 years ago for removal of a sarcoid, they dealt with the claim very quickly and even paid for a Boett as my vet recommended it to keep the flies off.

I used to process Equine insurance claims in a large equine practice and generally most are ok other than the one you mentioned! My own horse was with KBIS and they were brilliant at paying out for several claims for him and also with all the other claims I dealt with at work. Petplan are good but I heard a few complaints that they can be slow, although this was 10 years ago! I guess because they are so big.

Ok. This is the same game as renewing your car insurance. I used to be with Tesco when they started out with their car insurance and got my renewal quote through. There no way I was taking that up, so went online to one that gives loads of quotes and who came up cheapest by about £150 than my renewal quote? TESCO!!! All I did was ring up, say I didn't want to renew it and bought it back with them at the cheap price. Bloody idiots! They do it because they presume that most people can't be arsed trawling through quotes and will just let the renewal run at the more expensive price.

Presumably this is going to be the same thing with all insurance? I don't think the equine world is at the dizzy heights of multi-quote sites, but ring them up and ask what the hell they are playing at!! Somewhere else will beat the quote you've got, even if they just match what the figure that just passed.

Good Luck!!

you no this forum is really starting to p*ss me of !! the way some peoples questions are ignored.... im thankful to the people who replied, but most of the people on here have insurance for there horses and this is a perfectly reasonable question, with a genuine need for advise but people just cant be bothered to reply.....im not writing this to create an argument. but just because im annoyed that i really need good advice and people choose not to help.

I have both of mine insured with Petplan.
I have never had to claim though.

OP- Have you phoned them up & discussed the quote with them as they may knock the premium down a bit ??

XxX
