Which is better, livery or your own field?

HATED being at a livery yard. I like being able to strip down to my underwear and sunbath or lay in the trough when it's hot. Or do things like pull in quick on way home from a night out at 2am to sneak the naglett a polo or similar. No chance of getting away with those shenanigans at a livery yard. Or kipping there when I forget my house keys :-)

We have a 10 acre field, but if OH wasn't interested, there is no way I could manage it on my own!

We have bought two tractors, a tipping tractor trailer, a hedge cutter for the tractor, along with a grass cutter and a post knocker....and couldn't do without them really!

OH does all that sort of stuff, I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

Our field is also nicely divided up - we have a small schooling area (just grass) emergency stable (which can be moved if needed) feedshed and a shelter.

5 years later, we are still planning on stuff!

It IS hard work, but as we are a horsey family, the time we spend there isn't a factor, we love it.

If OH didn't like horses, then we wouldn't have so many AND my horse would be in a livery yard!

I have 2. One is at home with me in a field with shelter. The other is on livery.

I do miss having the facilities of a livery yard when struggling to do something with my field kept boy (keeping clean, shoeing in the middle of winter, storage ect) but he is so much happier being on his own, and where we are I have limitless hacking and I get so much enjoyment out of my boy.

On the flip side I miss having the privacy that I experience at home when on the livery yard with my girl. But she can be a little neurotic and she thrives on the structure and company that a livery yard can offer. She did live at home with my boy but It wasnt really working out and both horses are now happy living in different places.

This way both horses are happy!

Definitely livery yard! I am on DIY, as is everyone else, from just about the first day of moving (when they had to be in on a 7 day worming programme) horse and I relaxed!!!

I could have him at home if I wanted to ........... but I love yard and so does he. We are both gregarious by nature, he loves the fact he is out with around 10 other geldings and I love the fact that there are loads of people to ride with and loads of people to chat to.
