Ok this may seem like a silly post but I mentioned a few weeks ago that P was starting to get his tongue over the bit in the double bridle. When he does this I have absolutely NO contol and its not pretty. As he will be doing a few WH and ridden classes this year I decided on the advice of a judge to play around with a few different bits and see what he likes.

To be honest I think he does it when he get bored. It's like "Ok I've had enough so I'll just entertain myself"

Anyway to the pioint, yesterday I tried him in this rubber pelham and I just want to know, is this milder than the double bridle???

Thanks!!

it depends how you use your double bridle - a double is only strong in the hands it is ridden in! Have you thought about a high ported bit so he cant get his tongue over it? I wouldve thought he can get his tounge over the pelham easliy

I ride Bloss in her double off the bradoon rein with a loose curb rein as she didnt need it and wore it purely for showing purposes.

Thanks Guys!

P_G the thing is the double does have a high port

dont ask me how he gets his tongue over but he does. Strangely, he didnt put it over this bit last night; instructor has said to ride in it for a few days and see how it goes.

He will only use this bit for showing and when I used to ride him in the double I rode off the bradoon too but there were time s when I did need to pick up the curb.

The thing with P is he doesnt like being bitted up and if he feels the bit is too harsh he will fight against it, thats why I though this might be a nicer option?

Could the port be hitting the roof of his mouth and making him uncomfy, so he sticks his tounge over it to stop it happening? (clear as mud, eh?)
