Can anyone help me to solve a yard dilemma?
One of the horses, a Haffy-cross, has a medium-red chestnut coat but we can't tell if he is a palomino or a chestnut with a flaxen mane & tail - how can you tell the difference?

All Haflingers are chestnut with flaxen manes and tails. There is no palomino in the breed at all. Do you know what he is crossed with?

It is possible to test individual horses to get a clearer idea of their colour too.

Thank you - I don't know what he's crossed with I'm afraid. Is it just a rule that Haffies can't be palominos, or is it defined biologically do you know?

As far as I know they just don't have the cream gene in the breed at all so can't have palominos, they are all shades of chestnut, a bit like our own Suffolk Punch.

I believe you could test the horse for the cream gene which would give you a definitive answer.

I suspect that he would be chestnut with the flaxen mane and tail, not as light as mine?
