Help, ive got to make a massive decision tonight, and I just cant make up my mind!

I currently work for the police, taking emergency calls, I work 6 days on, 60 hrs and then have 4 days off, I get 1 weekend off a month and im very well paid for it!
But I only have the energy to ride my horse twice a week in those 2 days off due to sleeping to make up for the night shifts, I havn't done a winter there yet, so god knows how tired im gonna be when I have to start mucking out at 6am!

Now ive been offered another job with a local housing association, half the distance, mon-friday 9-5, xmas off, more time off for the horse, but its £300 a month lower, and next year it will be £500 lower than what I would of got in the police after my pay rise.

Im really confussed, do I carry on and have money but a hard working life and probablt put the horse on part loan, or take the easy job with lots of me time and have to watch the pennys from now on?

Your views would be really appreciated :)

I'd probably go for the new job and then get another job one evening a week to help make up the money, it would still give you more time with your horse and less travelling........ although it does depend whether you love your current job if you do then don't move as having a job you don't enjoy is awful

well my dad told me recently after i left a job that i'd been in for 22 years that WE WORK TO LIVE not LIVE TO WORK so I took that on board and jumped out of my 22 year safety net and have never looked back. If you can manage on less money and would be happier, go for it - good luck

I say go for the new job. No point working your bottom off and having no time for the things that you enjoy. You can always take on something extra to earn some extra pennies now and then and I'm sure you would appreciate the time with your horse. :)

Probably depends how well you can manage on the lower salary. If you have a higher salary but the horse on full livery is it better to have the lower wage and horse on DIY? I dropped around £5k about 8 years ago to move to the job I do now and still earn less than if I had stayed where I was but to some extent current job is more flexible and is more interesting (generally) though is in a small organisation so miss the social interaction of a bigger company. That said, horse is now on full livery whereas was on DIY before - not quite sure how that worked into the equation!

Thanks for the reply's, my horsey is at home at the mo, so im lucky there, and mum does him once a day in the winter, so i only do morning or night depending on my shift!
I like my current job some days, but when my hubby gets in at 5pm and im out the door 5.05pm to do a night shift or when im working the weekends when he's at home i get really depressed, and i mean depressed, I started crying over it the other week which is why I applied for this job, but since then ive felt ok again, my mind is all over the place! :(
