Sorry folks, I know there are loads of trailer posts, but I'm still not sure.....
Planning on buying a Nissan X-trail with 2000kg towing limit. Horsey is around 500kg (15hh welshie cross tb) and I might be adding a tiny lead rein pony, so would prefer a double.
So far on my possible list is a Bateson Deauville (downrated to 2000kg) or a Cheval Liberte, probably 2003. Are there any others I should look at?

Also, where to look? -there just don't seem to be any around in the North East/Borders, especially 2nd hand.
I would really appreciate your thoughts.

We had a Bateson Derby which we used with our Automatic Nissan X-Trail. Really lovely trailer, excellent to tow and my 15.2hh fitted in it with room to spare. Also took Genie in it and she's a 14.3hh Welsh Cob, and she also fitted fine. It's now used by Wiltshire Fire Service to tow around their mechanical horse, but that's another story! I do like the Bateson trailers I have to admit, although I personally don't use trailers anymore.

We've got a cheval, we've currently got the gold model which is fab but we did have the 2003 til some lovely person swiped it. We only upgraded to the gold because they had sold out of 2003s. I really can't speak highly enough of them they are just so user friendly. We had to borrow an ifor whilst waiting for insurance and it really highlighted everything I loved about the chevals. Try jsw coachbuilders in northallerton they are stockists of cheval and bateson although I don't fancy your chance 2nd hand.

Thanks for the replys and votes of confidence for both. I spoke to a lovely guy at jsw today as I think they are the nearest big stockists to me, but still a fair drive. I am planning to go down there and look in the near future to compare the two makes. I don't fancy my chance at 2nd hand, either, and I've been keeping an eye out for months!

I have had a Cheval Liberte for a year. It is a single one though. It tows beautifully and gives a very stable ride. As that model is only 500kg it tows with the family car! They are certainly worth a look. Great design as well.

We have a Rice Popular, its old but its great, it only cost us a grand and has a new floor and eveything refurbished.
Rice trailers pull really well and OH who is lorry/crane driver rates it very highly.
You don't need to spend a lot to have a decent runaround.
Not sure if Rice make a modern lightweight, but i am sure they must. I would always favour Rice trailers even if I could afford to buy new. They are built to last and hold their value.

I have the Bateson Derby - this means I can tow with my car - I too have an approx 500 K 15 hands gypsy cob who I travel with the partion out so he has plenty of room.

It can take 2 x 14.2 no problem so you may find your horse will fit ok with the partition - Chancer is fairly broad, hence this year the partition came out - he did fit with the partition in but it was a little tight.

I love this little trailer as it is easy to tow and so light I can park it into tight areas by hand myself.
