I have renamed my newly acquired pony (who was never called by his proper name anyway) and am about to send off his passport with the change of owner and name details

should I put the passport in his full name or 'stable' name? likewise the insurance, i could give his full name but then dont want complications with my vet who has his stable name down

Or am I overthinking this? lol - the more I think about it the worse it gets! maybe he shouldnt have a full name anyway, he isnt a posh pony!

I REALLY wat to change my horses registered name as it is awful! But I am worried it is unlucky :p Any ideas on this???
This thread has got me thinking a bit about the depths of changing the names though....

Whatever you like really.
If you really dislike his full name then use his stable name.
For the insurance policy ,you can use his full passported name if thats what you decide to keep on his passport, then put his stable name in brackets afterwards,
eg Moorlands Martin [Sparky]. Then everyone knows its the same horse and no confusion.

Petplan started to record registered and stable names due to confusion!

Just make sure if you ever submit a claim that you put both names on the claim form

Thank you for replying, that all makes sense :) One less thing to panic about lol

Baker - In this case the pony was passported as one name but the previous owner never used that (or any name really) and the pony didnt recognise it, I dont like the name and so am changing it - if he had recognised it I wouldnt change it as along with a new home it would be too much of a change for him but I dont think its unlucky as such (although I know a lot of people who would think it unlucky) - if you arent changing your horse's stable name and if his full name doesnt add value (ie very well known stud or something) then I would personally change it

I emailed KBIS and they said that its fine if insurance name and pass-ported name are different but just make sure the vets know when you have to put a claim through.

Well my horses stable name is "Star" - the name she answers to and i sknown by to everyone.
Her registered name is "peugeot" which as far as I know holds no relevance to anything, nothing to do with breeding or anything I can find.

Its more for show purpose, I want something that relates to her stable name, and something that might make it a bit more obvious that it is actually her :p Apart from the fact I dont really want my horse to be related to a car

Horses registered names are permanent I think, you can't change them just like that. You have to contact the breed society if you want to change it. Passport should surely be the horses official name, same for competing. The name you give for vet and insurance is up to you.
