I would like to get a Neue Schule bit, but I am baffled by the different types and their purpose?! :o

Cob currently goes well in bog standard full cheek french link - I don't think he needs the full cheeks any more though.

Also, I've heard the sizing comes up small on them, is this true?

Why don't you just try a egbutt French link first! Neue schule ends up getting expensive when you horse decides it likes nothing else!

I use them - I have the NS verbindend and an 'Anky' one and I have just ordered a fulmer one for my youngster. All mine love them - the Salox metal is fab.

They are good! I made the mistake of trying my girl in one, and now have a drop snaffle, a Pelham and a double set, and could probably do with getting the wilkie snaffle one! But ends up expensive!

Our cob is in loose ring Trans Anky wotsit :) but each to his own. He loves it, look on ebay too for ones for sale. watch out for actual ring sizing and mouthpiece thickness. Have nothing but good to say about them -other horse goes in eggbutt NS bit. And they wear really well too.

Do yoo have any issues? Leans? Won't take a contact? Can be strong?
The Team Up or the Tranz Angled lozenge are probably your most basic, kind snaffle that doesn't do much other than be as comfy as possible.

He likes to lean.

I have read through all the descriptions on the site, but there's so much information to take in!

Speak to the Bitbank, they are really helpful and you can trial the bits to see whether your horse likes them and whether they solve your problem.

My HW maxicob goes very kindly in the NS loose ring Verbindend. I can't remember the exact thickness, but it's one of the thinner mouthpieces. He has the typical cob mouth conformation of a thick tongue and a low palate, so he needs a thin mouthpiece, despite having a large head and a slightly roman nose!

The Team Up is another friendly bit.

The Team Up and the Tranz Angled won't be ideal then as they're for horses who need to learn to take a contact and prone to backing off. A Verbindend would prob be a good bit to try. Comfy but discourages leaning.

I have one, a loose ring lozenger snaffle. Which my horse hates! He tried his hardest to chew/ Grind through it. Changed him into a straight bar happy mouth and he is much better.

saying that, i know many people who's horses go well in them, so i wouldnt write them off.

They're ALL lozenge bits so yours could have been any model. The shape varies significantly between models. If yours hated the Verbindend, he may haven really liked the Tranz Angled for example.

Mine is in the Neue Schule Starter which is a loose ring snaffle with lozenge. She is a young ex racer and I wanted to progress from the Fulmer snaffle she arrived in. My YO puts all of hers in these and lent me one of hers to try. My horse loves it (so much so when my friend I got her from came to see her and rode her she commented 'She LOVES that bit doesn't she!' and yes you do need to go down a size as they are designed to be quite close fitting. She was a 5 1/2 and the NS I bought is a 5 1/4. Well worth the extra money I would say.
