breast plate or breast girth which one is better out hunting?
also i have a jumping standing martin gale as he snatches alot and i mean alot, he tends to snatch going into a fence too, so would i be allowed to use my jumping standing martingale, or should i go with a running mrtingale, although these dont make much difference????

Hunting breastplate I would say, as it gives a strap to grab if needed, don't dismiss it.....one day, its always needed!!!

A lot of people frown upon jumping in a standing, but I understand where you are coming from, I know horses that jump in them for a reason, one of only places I have seen a SM used is on the hunt field for jumping, so I think you will be safe.

In Essex a standing is looked at with horror, but up in KLeicestereshire they seem quite common. Don't know why, but to get over some of the ditches we have a horse must be able to use his head, but I would have thought that applies to uprights, too?

Rosiie, just got Horse mag (friend gives it to me) lovely photos of the man, a really good article.

Normal hunting breastplate would be better. On Exmoor almost everyone uses a standing martingale, but we have little that is jumpable. I used to hunt in a jumping country and always used a running martingale which allows the horse to stretch his head as necessary. Personally, I would be concerned to use a standing if I was going jumping, unless it was really loose, but it wouldn't do much good if it was!!

I had never noticed the number of standings here until after you mentioned that and counted 5+ today, and thats definatly Leicestershire hunting with the Quorn

One of our lot changed her running to a standing, mid hunt, by tying the rings to her horse's noseband! We don't much what goes here in deepest, darkest Norfolk!

But then we don't jump much.

Also agree that having something to hang on to in difficult situations is a very good thing! I
