I've always had Shires rugs for my two, which have been great. I just ordered new ones, and after clipping my mare yesterday put it on today. I'm not impressed.

The lining only comes half way down the rug, so the warm bit is actually covering the non-clipped bit of her, while the bit that is protecting her clipped bits are basically no fill and flapping about in the wind. Not good...

I do, however, still love the fit round the shoulders and neck..

These are my horses, to give you an idea of type. I hate Rambos and Amigos on them - too tight across the shoulder (although do wear sweetitch hoodies). People suggested Mastas, which fit well on the chestnut, but not great on the bay, hung a bit around her chest (suprised me). I don't want to spend a fortune, having already forked out for these new Shires ones..

premier equine fit my chunky monkey very well (chunkier than you'd think from the pics ;))
also the weatherbeeta with the shoulder gussetts

PosieHoney, yours is of a similar type I would say.

From their website, it seems that their front fasteners have clips - can they be adjusted? I always struggle with the chestnut if they don't..

yes i did think they look similar :) mines only 16hh and i'm 5'6 - she's wide enough to take up leg well :)

PE have from clips - with different rings to clip them to so you can adjust them

ETA - mine takes a 6'9 in up to medium weight in PE but i find for the 450gm - which i also use a rug under - i got up to 7' (yes she gets rugged to eye balls - but she lives out 24/7 365 on a north facing hill in bonny scotland ;) she has a shelter but declines to use it )

Premier Equine turnout and Weatherbeeta stable rugs are the only ones that fit my boy! He's a registered ISH, half connemara though so is a right chunky monkey but you'd never think it to look at him :) Premier Equine really cover him all over, have just bought their Trio rugging system to get us through the winter and really impressed with it :)

I have a CB and he is currently in Weatherbeeta rugs... they are the only ones that seem to accomodate his deep neck. when he stops growing I may look into premier equine.

Have to say, most rugs finish the fill about a foot from the bottom though (as that is where the contact with the body tends to stop) so not sure you will improve on that ;)

Yes, but this time it seems shorter than usual, and the white bit doesn't look that waterproof either! Will let you know later - its poured all day and she's been out in it!

From looking at the PE website, they do look deeper and filled lower down. May worry me on days when they go out in the wet field, but as they're mainly on hardstanding in winter they'd be fine.

I'm just a bit worried about the front fastener and if it can be adjusted. The chestnut is huge around the chest - doesn't fit standard martingales/breastplates.. Also they're not cheap, so want to know they fit! Also does the velcro that attaches the neck age well?

Went on the WB site, but the pictures were blurred so hard to see!! Had them before and they fitted well.

Thank you all.

Have to admit that the Shires one didn't look as bad tonight with just wind not gales like this morning.

But am very impressed with the PE rug - like the reflective strips as we have to lead up and down a small lane to one of our fields, and despite us having reflective stuff on when we lead them, I often wish the horses did too..
