Which rugs??

My 2 lads have got their middle weight rugs on already, blade had a real bad cold earlier this year and still coughs in the mornings so i dont want to risk him getting a chill and grump really feels the cold. In the winter they'll be in when the weather is really bad and i put rugs under the turn outs all of the time but i'm getting hints from the yard owner that i shouldnt be rugging up yet! I know its nice in the days some times but the field is really open and gets lots of wind and is still quite cold, if it gets really hot i take the rugs off. She's made me a bit paranoid that i should take my rugs off, the others on the yard have already done what she says, what do you recon??
 
I say every horse is different, one of mine has a medium weight on most days now, the other is naked!

Some horses feel the cold more.

you know your horses better than anyone, dont worry about what anyone says, you know if they are too hot/cold etc.
 
glad you feel the same as me, i've got tb's they've got old hunters! lol!!

i should learn to be more confident around them!!

grump usually gives me a pretty good idea when he's cold, he runs over to me and shivers! he jumps out of the field and runs back to the stables if it rains and he can get out too!!

blades the one that bothers me really, i've never seen a horse have a cold like he did, it was really bad, i dont want to risk damaging him, he's only 5!
 
They're all different and you can't go by what everyone else is doing.

Mines unclipped, inside and been in a h/w stable rug for weeks now. Yesterday I got a call from the yard saying he was shivering and did he always feel the cold so much (i did warn them, no one ever believes me!

) so now he also has a full neck under rug on.

Most of the horses on our yard are now rugged as its dropping to around 3 degrees here at night and hovering at around 10-11 during the day. Most have stable rugs on and no one has clipped yet.
