I have decided to do absolutely everything possible with my boy this year. Including showing. At local level. I have never shown so the question is, what classes would he be suitable for? He is 17h, and i`ve only recently been told that he is poss IDxWelshD.

depending on the quality of his flatwork and your riding the novice equitation is another one (to be done in a snaffle no martingale ) if you can ride a nice prelim test then go for it ( if you are at a better standard than prelim then you can still novice classes until the end of the season you first win the class)

Don't book your day up though, especially if you are new to the show ring 2 or 3 classes max !

I would say Novice workers, ridden hunter and and an equitation class should do you nicely and you'll be ready to go home by then.

Showing is not like showjumping you are not in and out of the ring in a few mins - depending on how busy the day is or if its a qualifier you can be in there AGES waiting for each individual show so allow yourself plenty of time, you will be more relaxed then too.

relaxed you = relaxed horse

Well any show class where confirmation and way of going are being assesed really - (so not equitation as this is judging your riding) and at riding club level it is not as common place but our local riding clubs seem to always have a judge ride in the run up to Cheshire Show, in a way it is good for the members as their horse will have experianced it before the big day.
