I have a 16.2hh IDx 8 year old grey gelding (that's him in my sig). What classes would suit him? I fancied doing some small showing classes (unaff.) with him this summer, as he's gorgeous! I've been told ridden hunter possibly, and i wanted to try working hunter (mainly for the jumping!) Does this sound right?
And what would i need for showing? Any special tack, do i need to plait up (he's currently hogged, but is growing out) etc? As you can tell i'm sort of new to this showing thing, so any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks

x

I would try working hunter. You will need to plait if he has a mane by then. You will need to work on your position though...looking at the last picture in your sig!!!!!!

Mind you. JB was fine in ridden hunter but didn't like the tyres round the working hunter. never mind it's all for fun. OH was riding him made me lol. He also did Le Trek on a one day special (pairs) they came second. Also had a go at dressage picked up a third and fifth. Bless him he is not really built for dressage though.

At low key show you could try your hand at a few!

If he's got a nice steady jump and has some nice paces then Working Hunter
If he needs a little work on his jumping but has the latter Ridden Hunter or Riding Horse, or Riding Club Horse.
Tack and Turnout, if you've got yourself some nice smart tack and you can turn him out to perfection, he looks a smart horse, give it all ago and see what happens.
Can't really tell from the picture but get him into shape and perhaps pull/hog the main for an ultra smart look when it comes to plaiting etc Pulled tails are better than plaited if your doing hunter classes plus its one less job to do the night/morning before!
