Not the best piccies as took them off my phone but what classes would suit my boy? he's 4yrs old and 15hh/15.1hh
classes at the show are hack/riding horse, small hunter which do you think he would be better suited to and also what jacket do I wear? Thanks in advance!

I don't know much about all this showing milarky!!
BUt..............

What a lovely pony :-) in the first pic is he holding the carrier bag??? or just a trick of the camera haha xx

As he is so young I would either just take him to see what a show is like the first time or enter a turnout class. If he is a calm type them choose one other class to do possibly in hand if they have any. Good luck.

Is there a novice class? That's what I would be inclined to do with a 4yo. (Snaffles only in novice classes though). He is not fine enough to be a hack so if the hacks+riding horses are in the same class I would go for small hunter. Hunters and Riding horses you wear a tweed jacket, hacks it's navy :)

He is gorgeous, what a sweet face!

I'd just do something low-key to start with, maybe tack & turnout, just to get him used to the whole scenario. If you go into hunter classes straight away, it may be a bit too much just yet. I reckon, next year, workers could be his thing.

Have fun with him, the little cutie!:)

Thanks for all the replies, yes that is a carrier bag he has in his gob! only way I could get him to stand still with his head up! give him something to 'play' with. Think I might just do a tack and turnout for our first show, he's been out and about at shows since he was a foal so is quiet :)

he is by catherston dance in the dark and his mum is a JA pony of unknown breeding possibly connemara x tb

Difficult. At higher levels he'd be put in the show hunter/working hunter pony up to 15hh section.

Whilst I see why others have said show hunter, I personally would try him as a riding horse first. I think he would get dwarfed in a general mixed show hunter class.

If you're just going to do the tack and turnout class, try and catch the show hunter and riding horse/hack classes, and see which of the winners you feel he is closest too.

For both riding horse and show hunter you should wear a tweed jacket. The only turnout difference is that the riding horses get to wear a pretty browband, whilst the hunters wear plain.

Have fun!

yes I think he would look out of place with the hunters as im quite tall, think I will have to play it by ear, he has done well in hand as a 2 and 3yr old in both sport horse and hunter classes

hmmm he looks laaaaaaaavely!!! such a ind face i agree when hes older and jumping working hunter... maybe hack i think... though a little sturdy for that not sure?

ooh i duno about a kind face... his nickname is cheeky charlie or nasher! he is such a monkey for biting usually on your bot! haha

He is lovely.I think he would make a cracking riding horse. I agree that he might look out of place in the hunters (at the moment with being young ) and that wouldn't be fair on him.I don't think he is a Hack either. They are so pretty and with very dainty small heads. Can i have him please?.

sorry no you cant have him he is my baby! (probably why he gets away with murder!) :P his mum is 25 and I still have her too.

like i said real stunner but he must be a menace no crit but i cant help noting the pelham on a 4yo? unless its just for showing purposes but if not you might want some calm quiet classes first!! : P

should have said that was just in for the photo! just tried it on him he is usually in a full cheek snaffle :) pelham would just be for showing purposes

It is perfectly acceptable to show a novice horse in a snaffle in any class, particularly at local level :)
