I'm finally nearing the end of my bags of speedibeet, and I'm possibly looking around for another 'slop' alternatives to try.
Not that there's anything wrong with speedibeet, just always nice to try new things.

It needs to be low starch and low sugar as the girls are barefoot and chunky types.
It also needs to have no garlic in it, as the youngster is sweet itchy (which rules out A&P Fast Fiber, youngster used to love it too :/ )

I was looking at some of the stuff Kramer have in, liked the thought of either of these two:

Soft (Soaking) Haycobs: https://www.kramer.co.uk/Hay-Cobs-Soft.htm?websale8=kraemer-pferdesport.47-GB&pi=490420&ci=261840
Ingredients: 100% meadow hay

I use the hard pressed haycobs as treats/distraction, they love them! I also like how it's just hay, uncomplicated.

Digestive Mash: https://www.kramer.co.uk/Digestive-Mash.htm?websale8=kraemer-pferdesport.47-GB&pi=490617&ci=261840
Ingredients: Rice bran, linseed shred, linseed, sunflower seeds, psyllium seed husks, brewer‘s yeast, helianthus tuberosus concentrate, linseed oil (cold pressed)

Now I like the idea of the linseed for coats and brewers yeast for my itchy youngster, plus psyllium husk is always good for the gut. Downside is it needs hot water, we have a kettle at the yard, it's just faff.

I also like the sound of Copra CoolStance, but it's a bit pricey...

I only use a tiny amount to mix their supplements in to and make their handful of plain oat straw chaff more appetizing, and to be fair to speedibeet it's lasted me forever as I need to little and it expends so much. I may even end up just sticking with it.

But this is just me rambling now, I'd love to hear other peoples suggestions for what 'slop' they use ;)

I find the coolstance brilliant, it really really bulks up when you soak it, so you don't end up using much at all. however it is missing other nutrients and can't remember off the top of my head what they are so it needs supplementation.

My impression of coolstance is that it soaks more than speedi beet, but maybe thats in my head... I add Chia seed, chaff and some broken up pumpkin seeds when I am making mine, and my two love it.

I use Bailey's keep calm - makes a really nice slop, fast soaking and they love it. base of speedibeet with linseed and other things. Not stupidly expensive otherwise

Thanks for reply's all!
I do definitely like the idea of copra, but it's just a bit out of my price range I think right now. And the Baileys Keep calm sounds good too, but it has molasses in it, and even though it's a very small amount, I'm a bit of a stickler for molasses-free feeds.

I had however, forgotten about grass nuts, I think I gave them a feed with a sample pack of dengie grass nuts soaked into it, and they loved them, so that may be the most economical solution!

Ready mash fibre but has moglo in, i am swapping to solution mash once this bag has gone but that has garlic in so wouldn't be any good for your itchy one! Pink mash went down a treat with mine but too difficult to get hold of!

Pink Mash is good

I really rate Copra, its the only thing that my sweet itchy pony looks amazing on, it lasts and lasts so can be actually very economical, a bag lasts my 11.2 pony four months

Sounds like it could be a toss up between Copra and Pink Mash, I think Pink Mash might win if I can get hold of it, because money :p

I did order a bag of grass nuts the other day for the job, but I can always just use them to pop in treat balls if they turn out to be too high in sugar to feed daily.

This has molasses in it.

It may have mollasses but still has low starch and low sugar - I guess it depends how much you feed if the small amount (it's like 6th on the ingrediant list) as to whether it would bother you. I only feed about a half mug (although it soaks to a good quantity) and it doesn't smell or look like it's full of sugary things so doesn't bother me :-)
