For anyone who uses watches, such as Apple, Samsung, Fitbit etc... would you recommend them? I ride on my own for the majority and always carry my phone with me in case of emergency, but it's a whopping Samsung Note 10 and it's a right faff trying to fish it in and out of pockets/bum-bag to check the time. I've been considering a watch for a while and would love one that could track my distance, speed or do they all do that?

As I have a Samsung phone, I've been looking at their watches but just wanted to check if anyone had any suggestions?

Ooh if you already have a Samsung phone I highly recommend the Samsung watch active 2 4g. I have this and it works on an esim and independently from your phone so you can call, text etc even with your phone being miles away. You can either get it on a contract with EE, its whom I'm with so only know what they charge, for £20 including the data link or buy the watch outright and then I think they charge £5 a month for the data link. I have the S21 Ultra as wanted the mega camera on it but it weighs a tonne and isn't practical to take riding.

I can only comment on Fitbit's as I specifically wanted an activity tracker rather than smart watch functions so didn't look at Apple/Samsung - but you need one of the newer ones with built in GPS if you don't want to have your phone on you too.

Charge 4 would do the trick - I have the 3 but that's an old model now so not sure you'd find one, the 3 doesn't have built in gps whereas the 4 does, but I always carry my phone too.

I have a Garmin Fenix 6, great watch, it has maps, music, you name it, it does it. It also has an emergency notification feature should you find yourself in need.

I have the samsung active2 which is really good. It speaks to me telling me distance, time, speed etc if I tell it Im exercising. I normally program riding is walking but it auto changes to running if I go faster. Strava links to it too so you can see your exact riding on a map - interesting for schooling as can see loads of circles etc.
