Could anyone advise please which yard tools to buy and where from please? I'm after a wheelbarrow, shovel, stable brush and shavings fork. :)

I prefer brushes from the garden centre as well. Wheelbarrow from mole valley and also have a speed skip. I also have a small thin yard brush which is handy for sweeping stuff into the speed skip.

I use/ bought a big metal Chillington wheel barrow. I love it; it holds loads.

All my tools have come from farm supply shops (mackaskies etc). Although I buy cheap household brooms from Tesco too. I do like a corn broom too.

Happy shopping :D

Would recommend a Speed skip and Quickie bulldozer broom to anyone if you like to make easy work of clearing up! :)

I would never buy another metal wheelbarrow - have had 2 of the Chillington ones over the years and as soon as you break through the paint they begin to rust. Plastic for me - I got a really good decent size one from Wynnstay that didn't break the bank and has done sterling service for several years. And as other have said - get from garden or farm shops to avoid the Equine Added Tax!

Future Forks are by far the best shavings forks I have come across. Light, balanced and last forever. Work well in all bedding types too

My Chillingtons aren't coated. One is 10yrs old and the other is 6yrs old and both, despite very hard use and neglect, look like new. I've had to replace tyres though as I've worn the tread right down with all my muck heap miles! I think I paid around £80 each for them.

I have seen the smaller Chillingtons coated in black paint and they don't seem to hold out as well.

Sometimes tools are cheaper from places like B&Q too.

mole valley are usually good and hev a selection of tools
if you live in Dorset/somerset The Paddock Pantry near sturminster newton is brilliant for pretty muh everything :)

Barrows can be very expensive so certainly shop around. You'll probably find the cheapest deals on the net, similar to this:-

Think about the size of barrow you want, remember a large barrow does carry loads of much but loads of muck can be very heavy!

With all the other tools only buy things from a saddlery when you have to, when they are not available elsewhere as anything sold as 'equestrian' has a premium price. Buy from builders merchants etc you will get better value & normally better quality also. Do the same with skips/trugs etc. They can be got from bug supermarkets much cheaper than saddlers.

Very Many thanks to everyone that has replied to me, much appreciated. I'm off to Mole Avon and the local garden centre now ;)

I did look at the future fork - will have another look.

Happy Riding, cheers muckers!!
