Hi,

I finally managed to take some pics and video of Magic. They are not the best as there was only me there but it will give you some idea of what shes like.

It would be nice to try and breed a event type for me but something usefull not hysterical!! Magic is sharp herself and a bit too clever for her own good sometimes so would deffo have to have a sensible head on his shoulders! Also being this late in the day he needs to have good swimmers as will only get one or maybe two tries!!!

I have been to see Med Night Mahoot, who I liked loads but wondered if he was a bit simular to her (far posher obviously!!) I have also spoken to Future Illusions mum and am tempted to go see him (altho thats a journey and a half!)

So here she is....

She hasnt been ridden for over 2 years now hence why she is not very muscley!

I also made two little videos of her trotting so you could see her move-

Magic trotting about

What do you think of her? Who do you all think she should try?? I should also say I dont have mega money to spend. I think £650 would be max but less would be better.

Thanks for answering (if you do lol)

ps I just spoke to Caroline about Don Aqui, he looks lovely..... Is she a forum member?!

x

Before I scrolled right down I was going to suggest Don Aqui at MFS. Yes Caroline is Anastasia on here. One of my own mares, a pure TB, is being AI'd with Don Aqui next week. I was also very tempted by Brief Encounter up at Grafham Stud, a son of Jumbo.

Where about are you? Think jumbo and his son are both at twelmlow's this year but you'd need a bit more cash!
What you after colour wise? Jumbo can through chestnuts so can his son i guess?

Brief Encounter is only £500 this year, Jumbo is £900

you may also want to have a look at Contis, a young grey stallion over at Godington Stud - I saw him last week and he is lovely (photos don't do him justice)

how is she bred? is she full tb?

Yeah she is. Thats why I liked the look of Don Aqui, he looked like he had more substance.
Am also waiting for the lady from Brendon stud to call back about EL - THUDER.....

She is lovely Vickijay!!! How is she bred???

Don Aqui is a stunner!

Shirley from Brendons Stud will have been at Hickstead all week (as well as collecting off the boys in the evening) and so is likely very busy this weekend so maybe give her another ring tonight or tomorrow. If not she will def get back to you as El Thuder is an AWESOME stallion and is just pure quality......he was just 2nd in the 5yr old Championships at Hickstead yesterday!

Brief Encounter is quite reasonably priced and he just came 2nd in a Intermediate.
Contis is lovely, I wonder if hes a bit light of bone for her tho????

She was bred to race. Shes by Magic Ring which goes back to GREEN DESERT and DANZIG.

I texted the lady and she said she would call me when shes done today.
There are so many lovley boys out there I dont know how your ment to choose!!

but twelmlows isnt you need double the stud fee for their charges
£7 a day livery at grass!
£65 collection fee
£170 per AI cycle and there could be 3!!!
oh and if they get in foal they have a fee for that too £140

if your really lucky your horse is there 10 days and gets pregnant 1st time you still need another

£445.00

without vet fee's for scanning etc!!!!!!!!!!!

have you looked at end house they have some handsome chaps

Iv just picked The Humerist for my mare he's only £375 and end house only charge a vet pack and livery at £4 a day

let us know who you choose but Don Aqui is beautiful-not sure how sensible he'd be though

obviously i dont know but he looks HOT lol

how can a horse LOOK hot? Don Aqui isn't in the slightest and is a love to handle. Unless you know the stallion personally, you really should not put rumours like that on a public forum.

You also do not have to send your horse to Twemlows if using AI, so do not have to incur their livery fees etc.

Personally if that is Twemlows prices I dont think they are too bad, you are paying for full livery after all. I know I would rather use a stud that I know is professional and will treat my mare well as well as getting them in foal as quickly as possible, that is why they are there after all.
And as Breeze mum says, how can a horse 'look' hot??

Well I for one think that £170 per cycle is pretty reasonable for an AI package!!! My current package is £300!!!

I would also second the fact that Don Aqui is a complete sweetie and easy to handle! He is a total gentleman!

You do realise if she is sharp you are more than likely to get a sharp foal from her, she's not too bad conformationally, why not buy a youngster - if you are strapped for cash it is the cheaper alternative than breeding one and you know exactly what you are getting. We always advise people to allow at least £3000 to get a foal from conception to yearling IF all goes to plan. If you are wanting an event type now is the time to buy as prices are so low you can get a really top quality foal for half of the price they were last year and at least you are guaranteed a youngster where as breeding is hit and miss.
It is better to start early in the year instead of rushing it now and then you can do far more research and go and see a range of stallions in the flesh to see what could improve your mare and what the stallions throw. Is also better for the foal to be born earlier in the year as will have better grass - just a thought.

Thanks for worrying about me.

I have already bred one foal from her so know what Im getting myself into! The foal she gave me is very sensible about everything and unflapable.

I agree that Im hooked, from seeing the blob on the scan to metting the spottie monkey was such an amazing journey. I know that it is heartbreaking and may go wrong in a horrible way but its worth it for the amazingness of the journey again.

I know its late but im not going to be silly, if I find the right stallion and it works then brilliant, if not I just wontt do it. Im not overly worried about having a later baby as I only have one, its not a rush to try and get her pregnant for the next year but again it might not even happen

Gonna throw a new name at you. Chilli Morning - Nick Gauntlett's stallion. A lovely 'person'. Super temerpament, not at all sharp from what I understand. And may well suit your mare very well.

He is lovely, alot. His BE record is the best I have seen of stallions (in the last 4 days lol) His cost is quite high tho, I could push to that (as long as I didnt tell my boyfriend, or mum lol)

I wonder if they only do frozen tho, a stud vet told me it wasnt a good time of year to do frozen, esp this late in the year, altho another lady told me it wasnt late just yet lol

I think ill ring them tomorrow (and work some more to pay it lol)

Most things are negotiable - especially in the current climate.

Good luck with whichever stallion you go with.

I emailed to ask anyway. My stud vet said it was a bad time of year for frozen, is that true?? Is it just cos its getting near to late?
I just dont know how to decide. Some more visiting is needed I think.
I think Ill go see the Brendon stud, go to find Future Illusion (wherever he will be!) and try and persuade my boyfriend to fly to Scotland to see Don Aqui. And theres still Med night mahoot.... I need to get more mares lol

Why would it be a bad time of year to do frozen? I have just had a mare AI'ed with frozen 2 weeks ago and she took first time and I have another going in a couple of weeks with frozen. I haven't heard about there being a bad time of year before.

I know thats what I thought and to be honest I cant even remember who said it to me. Maybe it was because the % chance is lower so getting near to the end of the "getting pregnant" time in a mare that hasnt taken yet....

You maybe right although i have never heard of that before. good luck with your stallion choice, there is too many to choose from isn't there!

Statistically, it takes 3 cycles to get a mare in foal with frozen AI...but like all statistics there are many variables that cause that to be the statistic.

We are an AI centre and still doing a lot of frozen work - imafluffybunny's mare is with us, and like she says has just scanned in foal after one cycle of frozen. What is important is that you send the mare to a decent place if you want to do frozen - or you will be wasting a lot of time and money.

Are you wanting to breed for colour or not as we have a stallion graded grade C BSJA,chaps young performance champion, and has relatives on the grandsire's side that have been advanced in eventing and he is 3/4TB 1/4 id type, piebald and very calm 16.3hh (nearly) and throwing super foals we are in North Yorks please feel free to PM me. and very good luck.
