Our Welsh D x appaloosa had a lovely filly this year, out of a Welsh D, which we thought would be the only foal we would breed. Circumstances have changed, (long and uninteresting story) and we are considering breeding the mare again this year, with a view to selling the second foal after weaning.

For those who have managed to avoid my many posts through 2007, the mare is a few spot appaloosa, this only became apparent due to lovely people on HHO explaining it to me! Having put her to a chesnut, she has thrown a near leopard spot. We will be using AI for her this time, so she will stay at home.

Now, do I go with the same type of stallion, which has thrown a very nice chunky foal which should be a good allrounder in time, or a completely different type of stallion, bearing in mind I won't be keeping the foal, and want the foal to have the best chance of being a useful horse for it's owner? Only really found out this evening that we can breed her again, and only got as far as thinking 'TB or Section D' !!

Any views appreciated, pics of mare and foal below, apologies to those who have seen them mny times before.

I love that foal!

If it was me, I'd probably go for something like an Anglo or TB to hopefully get a sporthorse prospect which can do a bit of in hand showing first.

Bearing in mind where you are, what about Daws Firebird, the Anglo Arab (his stud picture doesn't do him any justice at all, ask SN, she saw him either last year or the year before and was very impressed!)
Or there's those at the Diptford Stud (www.diptfordstud.co.uk)

There's also Sal.F's stallion (Groombridge May I, I think)

Lots to choose from down there.

HN - I don't know if they'd do AI for Siren's Missile (he's in Lancs', LucyB is in Devon!) but yes, he's a nice sort which might suit her too.

Thanks, feel a lot better than I did, just thoroughly weak as a kitten; don't recommend the bug at all!

I did think about Daws Firebird, I saw him at the Equine Fair and he was lovely, beautiful paces, also a friend of mine has a filly by him out of a TB mare, the mare doesn't have the nicest temperament but the filly is lovely! Langaller are only about 15 minutes from us, you can't get fresher AI than that!

Great minds think alike eh?!
I've had four by Fairlyn Gemini, another Anglo and they have all been delightful to handle and very good looking going on to do useful jobs from dressage, showing sidesaddle (Champion or Reserve several times) to a 4 year old being sane enough for a hubby to learn on but still competing too! Another has produced a smashing colt which is hoped to be the new stud stallion!
