Ok I know that my mare wont be everyones cup of tea and I had decided to sell her so I could buy another youngster to bring on, but I changed my mind because im liking her too much. I had wanted to breed from her last year buy just couldn't make my mind up. She is a 16hh 5yo with appaloosa characteristics. She goes to dressage and has won pre-lims, done a bit of local eventing, shown and jumps BSJA BN. She is totally anyones ride... Has a great brain for breeding. Her conformation is ok. She is slightly long in the back but thats not so bad in a mare? Her hind-leg isnt the best but not too bad.

She's not the type that I would personally want to breed from - however, the immediate thing that sprung to mind if I did would be an Irish Draught.

Fair point. Any reason for choosing ID?

Because they are compact little horses that would improve on your mare I think.

TB's could be too rangy. Warmblood - why add any extra to her length? etc.

Or you could go down the pony line of something like a Connemara.

I disagree with AmyMay (respectfully) i'd use a warmblood if it was my mare.
Depending on how much you want to spend really, there are some very talented young stallions about very reasonably or there is loads of very nice Grade As that would all cross very well to her.

I love Cleveland Bays and would like a BIG pure-bred to compete in showhunter classes. Not sure about my mare x Cleveland bay though...

I would look to improve her loin connection rather than worry about length of back so much as I feel that is a weak area for her from those photos. Plus improving the hind leg and not loosing any jumping ability
Stallion that sprang to mind immediatly was Condios

Future sport horses are the agents for them in Britain.

Just supposing you were to use a TB, you could get away with one that is square and blocky in the body - what I call an 'American' type of TB. Can't think of any off the top of my head though - apart from Kings Composer and unless you want to travel your mare down to Cornwall, I guess that would be out of the question (his semen doesn't chill or freeze you see).

What kind of stud fee were you thinking of spending - would help narrow down the search a little.
